2934.0. "NewTek's Video Toaster" by LOWLIF::DAVIS (That's not a BUG it's a FEATURE!) Tue Sep 19 1989 12:42

WOW am I impressed! I went to our Kansas City Amiga User's group meeting last
night and much to my suprise, the Cool Dudes from NewTek were there! They had
temporarily escaped from Alcatraz and were showing us some video demos of that
hot new computer appliance - the Video Toaster.

This is totally mind-blowing. Yeah, I'd read the articles, but until you see
it you just don't get the picture (no pun intended)! They had a video tape of
some stuff they'd whipped up in their labs and also a few Allen Hastings anims
(Rush Hour was one - was that freely redistributable and does anyone have a
copy?)

The demos of the toaster had Maxine being digitized in real time with tons of
cool effects. (Blinds, mosaics, zoom in and out, tiles, push in and outs, +++)
The neat thing is that the effects are all done in software, so you can have
potentially any effect they release software for. They are thinking that other
software (like games, for instance) could also be released in the future that
use the toaster hardware.

They just got some production models back and will start shipping limited
quantities any day now at $1595. They hope to be able to do quantity shipping
by January.

Also, we got a quick demo of DigiPaint 3. Neat stuff. I didn't realize how
powerful it is. It beats Photon Paint hands down!

Well, that's what I got out of it. The raffled off two copies of DigiPaint 3,
but I didn't get one.  :-(

    The Video Toaster has been "just around the corner" for a long time;
    don't be disappointed if it isn't ready by Christmas.
