-< Carmon Sandiego --> Amiga >-
Anyone got this one yet?
<< yes, It comes with a world almanac.
I'm looking for info about the ever popular game/educational product
called "Where in the world is Carmon Sandiego?" I've heard that it has
been ported over to the Amiga. What I'm interested to know is if any
work has been done on the product itself with regards to the Amiga's
capabilities. Specifically sound, Is there any music? Does the game
<< There is some music. but not all the time.
take advantage of the Amiga's speech capabilities? -(can you run it
to read the text to you, or do you have to read all the text yourself?)
<< I don't think it reads to you.
Have the pictures been enhanced at all, (imho, the pictures I saw on
a VAXmate, and on a model 25 IBM didn't thrill me at all). Also,,, the
game (as is almost any game) without sound was a bit boring after a while,
because the pictures just didn't thrill me. For example,,, in comparison
to the Deluxe Paint II examples disk low res pictures, the ones in Carmon
Sandiego look like stick figure drawings originaly done for a gray scale
Mac monitor.
<< The pictures are in color but not great. There are some cute animation
<< scenes with sound footsteps, gunshots, etc. Although My son liked it better
<< than the Apple version, the most important part of this game is the game
<< concept. The Amiga implimentation is not going make you want to buy it.
<< The kids will get the same things out of this game the do from the other
<< versions which is why I bought it. It's copy protected.
If the porting was just a straight forward transfer, with none of the
enhancements I asked about, I'm afraid I'll be just a bit disappointed
once again. I say again, because of the very few kids educational
programs I've purchased, I always seem to be left asking similar questions
like, why don't they use this feature, or that, (and I referring to biggies,
for example; Why doesn't Talking Animator let you manipulate the voice,
(speed, pitch, or inflection), and why doesn't it even have a simple cut
and paste, or let you import pictures from D. P., or text from the default
Amiga Notebook.) It seems like so many programs limit themselves by
dropping major functions.
The Discovery series educational packages could do so much more to their
format, like randomly reconstruct the space ship before each game, or
manipulate strings of music so you don't hear the same 30 note tune for
the whole hour it takes to play the game, or it surely could provide a
better ending when you win.
*** May God Bless ***
