I have a friend who has a 500 system and the internal drive is faulty. Do any of you guys out there know if the IBM compatable 720K drive is usable as a replacement (modifications??) or does the Ami use specific drives. Any idea of the price of a replacement drive? I am in Australia and the price quoted by one repairer was A$325... thanks Geoff p.s. the fault with the drive is it won't spin up.. give the motor a nudge at the appropriate time and it works ok..

2914.1 | How much is that in German marks? :-) | FRAMBO::BALZER | Christian Balzer DTN:785-1029 | Wed Sep 13 1989 06:22 | 10 |
I have no idea what A$345 is worth in "real" currency, ;-) ;-) ;-) but anything more than US$ 150-200 would be robbery. Try to get the original drive somewhere else. Other drives might work, depending on their physical layout (eject button) and their support of the diskpresent signal... Regards, <CB>
2914.2 | check for small spring | LINCON::MGAINES | Thu Sep 14 1989 11:18 | 6
Hi, I had a spin up problem as well. The problem turned out to be a small tension spring was jammed under the platter. Check it out, maybe he has the same problem. You will need a flashlight and a small pair of needle nose pliers. M. Gaines |
