2893.0. "Have Money, Will Buy" by SHIRE::FITZGERALD (Changing the rules...) Tue Sep 05 1989 09:42

Before I order from Abel, any comments on the combination of Abel's
HardFrame/2000 DMA SCSI card and the 63Mb SCSI 38ms ST277N.

Does it fit in the 2000?

I haven't ordered from Abel, but the Microbotic's Hardframe is
probably the best SCSI controller for the Amiga. Performance wise,
DMA contention wise, etc... A recent AmigaWorld had a good review
of the various controllers available and the Hardframe finished
    at the top.

The ST277N is what I have, and so far no complaints. It doesn't have
the performance of the 19ms Quantum's (or the lifespan, I'm told),
but has worked great for me.

I installed the Hardframe/ST277N setup in about a half hour. It was
very easy. Remember, the ST277N will have to sit in the large floppy
    bay in the Amiga 2000.

It's a good setup. You get the performance benefits of the Hardframe
and the low cost/Meg of the Seagate. There is other information around
the conference on the HardFrame. Try a dir/title= on "Micro" or
"Hardframe". I think this set me back $245 for the controller and
$439 for the drive, last winter. You'll probably do better now.

2893.2Sounds goodLOWLIF::DAVISThat's not a BUG, it's a FEATURE!Tue Sep 05 1989 12:1617
I just did the Hardframe with an 80-meg ST296N and have had no problems yet!
The HardFrame looks like a get controller, seems solid and well built. I
also had it installed in about 30 minutes.

The hardest thing was deciding how I wanted to partition all this beautiful
space out and do the low-level format. I decided how many and how big to make
the partitions and then followed Microbotics suggestions for most all of the
questions in the install program. Works great. I haven't run DiskPerf so I
don't really know what kind of speed we are talking here. It's a lot faster
than floppy! :-)

The drive mounts perfectly in the existing 5" bay and you still have room
on the card to mount a 3 hard disk later.

Enjoy it, I do,
