2883.0. "COPIES NEEDED!" by HXOA01::STEEVES () Thu Aug 31 1989 08:32

    HELP!

I HAVE TWO ORIGINAL COPY-PROTECTED GAMES, NEITHER OF WHICH WILL
BOOT ANY MORE. THIS IS THE DANGER OF HAVING 4 KIDS AND AN AMIGA.
THE FIRST GAME IS "SUPERSTAR ICE HOCKEY" BY MINDSCAPE AND THE SECOND
IS "STREET SPORTS BASKETBALL" BY EPYX.

IS THERE ANYONE WHO WOULD HAVE ACCESS TO THESE GAMES PLUS A COPY
UTILITY AND WOULD BE KIND ENOUGH TO MAKE A COPY ON MY ORIGINAL DISKS.

TO PREVENT THIS SITUATION FROM RE-OCCURING COULD SOMEONE SUGGEST
WHICH COPY UTILITY I COULD USE TO MAKE A WORKING COPY OF THESE DISKS.

    THANKS IN ADVANCE!

2883.1Boot Block saverVIVIAN::S_GOLDSTEINSteve G...01-234-5935Thu Aug 31 1989 10:3411
Their is a PD program which will save the boot block info of any disk
    (I can't remember what is called) .

Now if you had saved the boot info you could rewrite it and the disk
    could then be re used..

Also you could try one of many Copiers ie Project D , RAW copier ,
    etc...

I'm afraid that you'll have to contact the software companies that distribute
those games. They'll probably ask you to send your originals in and they'll
replace them. For anyone else to do it would be a violation of copyright law.

Good luck!

I guess -.1 is right. If you can get a copy program, good, but
it should not be discussed "online" here.

I had the same problem with a Dragon's lair floppy. The Amiga
was saying "bad floppy, contact the company" on the 4th disk.

I either had to send the floppy to the company (along with
$15.00) or see what is bad. Well, I found tiny finger prints
on the floppy. Those kids have fingers (full of peanut butter,
of course) small enough to slide the metal gate and touch the
magnetic area. I used (very carefully) texpads, (isopropyl
alcool pads) to remove the prints, and guess what?, it worked.

    Good luck,

    Vince.

:-) I LIKE IT! (Even hacking hardware problems can be fun!)

    FINAL SOLUTION.

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR INPUT, BOTH IN THIS FORUM AND VIA DECMAIL.

UNFORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE VISIBLE ON THE DISK,
SO I SENT BOTH DISKS TO THEIR RESPECTIVE MANUFACTURERS ALONG WITH
A $10. MONEY ORDER FOR REPLACEMENTS.

I ALSO ORDERED PROJECT D AND RAWCOPY TO HELP PREVENT A RE-OCCURRENCE
    OF THIS SCENARIO.

    REGARDS,
