Hi Robin,
read 2878.0 on how to get the diagram of an floppy-interface.
I don't think you want to build a drive by yourself, right? ;-)
Regards,

| Actually, I've had limited experience with PCB's and the like.
After all, what's life without a challenge? If someone could send
me the Diagram I could see what i'm up against, and if it's too
complicated, back off! >:-)
Thanks for the reply, maybe I will use that one! It was a reply
to a previous note of mine, anyway, I think!

2882.3 | disks have significant mechanical content | SAUTER::SAUTER | John Sauter | Thu Aug 31 1989 08:15 | 5 |
| Building a disk drive is more than just a printed circuit board.
There is also the matter of the rotating surface, the flying
head(s), and the actuator arm(s). There's a lot more mechanical
than electrical engineering in a disk drive.

Re: .3
Uh John, I think that Robin's request was just a bit mis-worded
and all he wants is an interface to connect a standard floppy to
the Amiga. I think (hope? :-) he's aware of the severe problems
of building a complete floppy disk drive, thus the smiley from me
at this question to him. ;-)
Are you listening Robin?

| Nope, I've had a word with him and he intends to build his own drive.
He seems fairly confident too...for now.

is right! Unless he has some serious cash, some real expensive equipment,
lots of Electronics and Mechanics ability, clean rooms, .... FORGET IT!

| O.K. O.K..... I take the unsubtle hint! HAHA >;-).
I have a friend who does have the resources to make the drive, but
I don't think i'll bother!
Thanks anyway.

2882.9 | old ciriuit didn't work for me | VIVIAN::S_GOLDSTEIN | Steve G...01-234-5935 | Thu Aug 31 1989 10:24 | 14 |
| I tried one of the circuits from wayback (the one with 2 components
74LS74 and 74LS38? ) and the best I got was the AMI sees DF1 as bad...
I have now aquirred an old 1010 and it uses a LS74 and a 5xxx or other
So I don't know at the moment what is going on...
When I get back from my Hol's I buzz the circuit through and find out
exactly what is going on...
Speak to you all in approx 2 weeks...

I forgot to mention I killed the 5820 I/O chip with the first attemp
of the circuit..
It then took 3 weeks to get hold of a new one...
