I just received a notice that ProWrite has been upgraded to version 2.5 and if I want a copy I have to mail in my 2.0 and $25 and they will send me the new version. The also said that upgrade 3.0 is in the works and if I send for 2.5 they will include a "Next Upgrade Free" cupon that I can use to get 3.0. Upgrade 2.5 includes: 1. Print near letter quality text and pictures on the same page. Print your high-quality printer fonts right next to your pictures. 2. Much faster typing speed. 3. Spelling can be checked as you type. 4. Spell checking is much faster. Should take less than half the time for most documents. 5. Set your own page sizes. 6. Turn top and bottom margins on or off. Now you can use whole page. 7. Insert current date and time anywhere in document. 8. Create center tab stops. 9. Load, save and convert text files that have line feeds after each line. Save time working with files you download from your favorite on-line information or BBS. 10. You get several utilities, including System Mover and File Convert, a program to convert files from other Amiga word processors into ProWrite format. They said ProWrite version 3.0 will be a major rewrite, however they did not give any clues as to what else it will contain.

I just received ProWrite 2.5 yesterday. I didn't even know there was a 2.5 when I ordered it last week. I've never used ProWrite before so I can't really compare 2.5 with 2.0. The spelling checker seems slow to me even though I load it into ram. If it's twice as fast it must have been really slow before. Although I haven't spell checked a long document, maybe that's where the speed up is supposed to be. What doesn't work for me is NQL printing with pictures. It prints the first line in NQL and the rest of the document in draft. I have the Panasonic KX-P1091i printer and am using the EpsonX driver. I've already talked to New Horizons about it and am sending them some sample printouts. They say they tested it on an Epson printer and it works. The line spacing is also screwed up in NQL or draft with pictures mode even though I've converted the entire document to Topaz 11. I haven't noticed anything else that doesn't work correctly and overall I'm pleased with ProWrite. (except there's no undo feature to undo the last operation) tom |
