Hi y'all,
I recently aquired an IBM PC AT for a charity I work with ( It is
required by the national organization for the mailing system )
and it uses a mailing system to track conversations called the
COORDINATOR. This mailing system allow the user to do a number
of neat things with conversations however it has one serious drawback
in a distributed multi machine environment connected by modems.
The draw back is that by running on a non multi-tasking machine
users cannot send mail to each other unless they are running the
same program and this would mean that they could do nothing else.
The work around that is used is to use dedicated HUBS which act
as mail routers.
Does anyone know if such a system exists for the amiga? Obviously
with its multi tasking environment this system could be improved
on the amiga. A backround task could monitor the modem line for
incomming calls and store the messages just like VAX mail does.
Feed back on this idea is requested even if you don't know of a
package.

AmigaUUCP will do this. While it allows you to connect to Usenet, there's no reason that you have to if you don't want to. You could just connect through your own private net. Mark | |||||
