2865.0. "Beginner's questions on modeming" by HKFINN::FU () Thu Aug 24 1989 18:23

I am a newcomer to the Amiga world. I recently bought an Amiga 500 with one
meg memory and an external drive. I would like to use my Amiga as a
VT terminal to hook into my VAX account from home. I can get a modem from
work (DF3, Scholar, or whatever we are issuing now). My questions are:

   1. Do I need any other hardware?

   2. What software do I need? Would someone be willing to copy this
software for me if I send them a disk?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and the less technically involved the
better! Many thanks.

Jack

You shouldn't need any other hardware. All you need is a program
called VT200. Besides it's terminal emulation feature it includes
    X-modem, Kermit etc..

    Great stuff.

I've heard it's for deccies only(?)

PS Ed Acciardi has (had?) a starter kit that included the above
    and other goodies.

Yup, send me e-mail and I'll arrange to get you a disk with a good
terminal emulator and the ARC and ZOO utilities needed to get going.

Ed, many thanks. I'll send a blank disk to you at NKS1-1/E3.

PS: Do you prefer any particular color? I recently bought a lot
of Fuji disks from Egghead during their "rainbow" sale. I can
give you Electric Blue, Repulsive Pink, and other wild colors,
or something corporate and self-effacing, like off-white or
    	VMS-doc-set-grey.

I hate all floppies, regardless of color. Send me whichever you find
the most offensive, and I'll forward ot to someone whom I dislike. :^)
