2853.0. "Downloading is now easy!" by GIDDAY::MORAN () Wed Aug 23 1989 02:00

This is just a note to say what my experences of downloading are:

Being in australia copying files from tape:: or any other remote node
take AGES!!!. After waiting for the file to copy from vax-vax the last
thing I want to do is to wait 10 mins or more for kermit to transfer to
my Amiga.(p.s. We no longer have any dial in lines in Australia - you
have to bring your computer to the office).

The best solution I have found was to go and use someone's Vaxmate at
work that is on the ethernet. I either user Network File transfer
or copy the file to my host vax and use PCSA to copy it to drive A:

This is by far the best solution.

If you can get acces to a Vaxmate - Use it!

Hi Shaun,

I'm located in Madrid, Spain, and I'm a new Amiga owner. To retrieve
files from the net is OK, that can be done overnight. Dial in access
to the VAxs isn't that good, we have a very restrictive policy.
According to what I've seen so far, downloading from the net to the
Amiga is a real nighmare ! I have access to a Vaxmate and I'm willing
to buy a 5"1/4 drive and hook it up to the Amiga if you can enlighten
a few points and help me to be confident that it'll work...

ready ?

1.What steps do you follow in the VAX or Vaxmate side once you
have copied a file accross, assuming you copied a .ARC or .ZOO ??

 	- What VAX tools are required (ARC, CVTARC, ??)

2. What steps do you follow at home when you bring the Vaxmate floppies.

    	- What AMIGA tools are required (DOS2DOS, ??)

It'd be nice if you could provide me with these details, I'm not a
technical person but can get help from VAX experts, if required,
although I'd like to be able to do everything myself.

Thanks in advance for your help.
