2849.1 | changed pins in newer parallel ports!!! | SPIDER::LONG | | Mon Aug 21 1989 21:14 | 9 |
| WARNING!!!!!!!
The 2000 ( and most likely the 500 ) has the state of the reset pin set
differently than the 1000!!! It took a few days to figure out why my
NEC P6 printer was hung. Hopefully the borrowed Digiview is only looking
at this pin for control and not for a ground!!!
Good luck,
Dick

Hmmm. My digi-view, which plugged directly into a 1000, required a "gender
changer" to plug into a 2000 (I believe the 500 has the same port connector).
This "gender changer" also contained a small power-conditioning circuit, I
believe, and the pins were not "straight thru". This gadget was a digi-view
special for this purpose, and works fine.
So the parallel port is different between the 1000 and the 2000. Some early
notes on the 2000 discuss this in detail, I think.

2849.3 | Different Gender | PENUTS::JCANHA | | Tue Aug 22 1989 10:14 | 10 |

Yes, the parallel ports have different genders, the A1000 is male
and the A500 is female. I am currently using a "straight" gender
changer. Do you think, I could construct my own gender changer based
on the differences between pin set-ups? If so, does anyone know how
I could obtain the pin set-up for the parallel port on the Amiga 1000?
Thanks,

chassis ground. I'm not sure if it's 25 or 17; in most applications it doesn't
matter.
See a note way back about the LJ252 printer. Do a dir/tit="lj" to get
the list. In one of the later LJ notes there should be an Amiga 1000 parallel
pinout. The important things are switched: the +5V pullup and the reset.

Thankyou everyone for your help and information. I can't believe
how quickly I got a response, especially wih the pin description.
Thanks,
