2798.1 | It's from ElectroniC Arts | EEMELI::LINDEN | | Mon Aug 07 1989 01:41 | 16 |
| Yup, I've heard and it's already launch to public in Europe( at least
in Finland). I has been reviewed in the latest Amiga User International
Magasine to be quit good game.
I haven't not yet tested it but tonight I have an chance to do that so
if you wan't comments about it then I'll tell tomorrow!
Here's something about the game itself.
It is almost like the ECA's Ferrari Formula One but it all happens in
an space dome with other contestant (or an human via. null-modem cable)
and the course is variable from oval rings to loops and other on course
and ofcource with variable weather conditions (like acid rain).

2798.2 | Get it! | GUCCI::HERB | | Mon Aug 07 1989 15:31 | 9 |
| Yep,I just got a chance to play it today! It is a best game I ever
played!! But another person who tried it said it was boring and
too hard..I agree that it is very hard. I could only do the oval
track without crashing. I still think it is the best game I ever
played. The graphics and speed are like starglider II and the game
reminds me of ferrierri formula one.

2798.3 | Top of the Tops!! | EEMELI::LINDEN | | Tue Aug 08 1989 02:06 | 19 |
| RE: .2
I agree that it's the toughest racing game ever made to AMY but it sure
beats the others (ie. Test Drive, FF1,...) and specially the two player
network option make's it the TOP of the TOPS.
The grafix ain't the best that you can get from AMY but the movement is
fast and smooth and I there lot's of neat touches like the Thunderstorm
blazing in the sky above track.
Here's my points for the PowerDrome(in a scale 4 - 10):
Grafix: 8
Muzak: 9
Play: 9
---------
Total: 9 offcourse this only my opinion.

2798.4 | | CURRNT::HERBERT | Herbie Goes Bananas | Tue Aug 08 1989 07:42 | 25 |
| I find the game speed to be very fast, and you'll soon find yourself
leaning to get round tight bends. The style of graphics reminds
me of the tunnel sections in StarGlider II, however everything
moves so much faster.
I think there are about 6 different tracks from easy to 'mission
impossible'. There is a 'centre' facility, which draws your craft
to the middle of the track, preventing collisions with the walls.
It can be turned on or off, and its recommended that beginners use it.
A visit to the pits can restore a blown engine or a damaged nose
cone. Refueling is automatic on entry to pits. It's at this
stage that you can alter the sensitivity of the craft, change the
filters (required for different atmospheres) and lots of other things.
These options are also available from the main menu, so you can
'tune' your craft before the race begins.
The disk may be copied for the two player option, however the original
must be inserted at some point.
8 out of 10.

2798.5 | Toughest game ever! | GUCCI::HERB | | Tue Aug 08 1989 20:51 | 11 |
| Have you noticed that the music is not the same twice??
I gotta try that 2-player mode! I can get first on the oval track
but the others are impossible..got any hints??
What I don't like is it does not save your times and wins.....
Can you ever crash into the oppponents??? My best lap on the oval
track is 15.5.
what was yours???

2798.6 | Oval completed now to the second track! | EEMELI::LINDEN | | Wed Aug 09 1989 03:32 | 14 |
| RE:.5
No I haven't noticed that about the music, does it change dramaticly ??
Maybe I just haven't been listening the music...
yeah those 5 other tracks are quite hard to get on specially to be No.1
, my best time in Oval is 17.3 but I'm using joy so I can't use the
afterburners so often as those can be used with mouse.
I've found that using setting the Center to 1 or 2 is the best when
using the fastest engine type, with these setups you don't bounce
wildly from the walls when you hit them.

2798.7 | never used the centering field | GUCCI::HERB | | Wed Aug 09 1989 11:43 | 4 |
| Is the joystick easier than the mouse??

2798.8 | Oh boy, the afterburners just blows you to heaven. | EEMELI::LINDEN | | Thu Aug 10 1989 01:29 | 15 |
| Yep, specially on the trench, because the mouse comes quite tricky when
the trench goes up/down/side to side....
But if one competes in an oval track then the mouse is TOP, I achieved
on the oval 14.0 seconds for lap time! To achieve that kind of time
I had the afterburners burning the engines almost RED HOT !! (couple
times just blow them off...).
Let me know what times you get on the other tracks !!
-Kari
PS: Those later tracks have quite mean trenches because there are walls
that like two hammers .... don't get between them..8+)
