2756.0. "2090A SCSI prob??" by CGOFS::OAKLEY (BCNU2) Fri Jul 21 1989 14:49

    I am trying to add an ST-157N 48mb SCSI drive to the existing ST-506
    drive on my 2090A, but I am not having much luck.

    I went through the Hard Disk Install and answered the questions
    and told it that the drive was the 157N, but it just comes back
    with "Drive not PREP'd".

    I tried moving the DS jumper across each connection and also left
    it off, but no joy.

    I tested the drive and cable on the Tandy here and it works just
    great.

    I made sure the cable is connected properly - red stripe to pin
    1 at the bottom of the board.

    Any suggestions, other than taking the board in (min $30 charge
    just to check it out).

2756.1What's it do?WJG::GUINEAUFri Jul 21 1989 16:366
Did you make a RES1: mountlist entry then MOUNT it for PREP?

Does the light on the drive come on at all from PREP?

2756.2Still no joy in MudVilleCGOFS::OAKLEYBCNU2Sat Jul 22 1989 02:2419

    No I did not use RES1:. I used RES2: (as per the manual & the HD
    instal) which uses unit 3 (the first unit # for SCSI drives).

    I did not see the light on power up, which I assume should happen
    during controller self test. During PREP I did not look at the
    drive at all because the PREP program puts up the "Not PREP'd" message
    right away.

    The lack of a light during power up makes me suspect the hardware.
    BTW when I place my hand on the drive I can feel the head movement
    during the power up selftest of the drive itself (that and PC testing
    makes me believe the drive/cable to be ok).

    Another thing I tried was to disconnect the ST-506 drive and run
    from floppies, same thing.

RES2: right, sorry!

Sounds like the 2909A is not seeing the drive. ARe you sure the cable in
plugged in correctly? It's easy to miss a set of pins on the 2090A connector.

It should be at ID 0 for RES2:

2756.4Hi Ho it off to the shop I go.CGOU01::OAKLEYWhat am I doing here...Sat Jul 22 1989 14:277
    Pretty sure the cable is on properly, I've had it on and off so many
    times that I must have had it right at least once.

    I guess that it must be the controller.
