2753.0. "Foreign language tutorials" by PNO::HEISER (Thursday's Child, dressed up with no place to go...) Thu Jul 20 1989 18:53

I need to know if there are any Foreign language tutorials
(i.e. Spanish, French, German,...) available for the Amiga.

    Thanks,

There was a program called learn (?? I think I will have to look) that
was an study aid written in AmigaBASIC. You would enter a list of
questions and their answer and the Amiga would speak them and expect
the answer to be typed in. If the question was in english the answer
could be another lanquage. This could also be reversed and The Amiga
could speak one language and expect an English response. It came with a
variety of ready made files. The only draw back the answer had to be
entered exactly as expected including spaces between words. No typos at
all. It might be on TAPE:: or NORSE:: I downloaded it a long time ago but
never really used it. I can't type worth a darn.

There are several programs called "LinkWord _language_"
(eg, LinkWord French, LinkWord Dutch, LinkWord German etc.)
that are available for the Amiga, I recently bought the Dutch
version. If the other packages are the same as this, then I would
*definitely* *NOT* recommend them. They work on a word association
method, ie the program throws out a screen with a foreign word
and a few sentences to help you remeber it. Some of the associations
made me cringe (I can't imagine a lot of thought went into them) and
there is absolutely no exploitation of the Amiga's sound/graphics-
	/colour capabilities. I expected a language-teaching package for
the Amiga to use speech synthesis (some hope!). Worst of all, I
noticed a couple of spelling mistakes, in a teaching package!

I think I could have written a better language aid myself.

IMHO, avoid these programs. At 25 a shot, it shouldn't be difficult.
