2752.0. "Question for Digiview/VCR owners." by SHARE::DOYLE () Thu Jul 20 1989 13:52

     Question, I've got Digiview Gold, and a second-hand security camera.

     I recently tried to tape some live footage by hooking my camera
    to the rca "video" jack on the back of my VCR.
     I then tried to photograph the screen with digiview set up, and
    the VCR on pause.
     The picture when paused, was distorted, almost like a scrambled
    signal from a unavailable cable station.
     I tried adjusting the tracking, but no success.
     We rented a video camera once, and the tape we made pauses fine.
     At 40 bucks a day, I'm hoping it's just some adjustment on the
    Camera I have to make.
    					Thanks;
    						Ed

    An answer to .0 from a video dilletante:

    Probably the industrial security camera has "random interlace"
    synchronization, meaning that horizontal and vertical sync are not tied
    to each other, and that all the extra pulses in the standard NTSC
    retrace interval are probably not present. Your television is good
    enough to stay synchronized to the camera's output. But I'll bet that
    the VCR and Digiview depend on a rock-solid V:H sync timing
    relationship to work properly. The VCR needs good sync to adjust its
    motor speeds to the recorded frame rate, and Digiview does since it
    scans over many video frames.

    re .2
    			Thanks.
    re .3
    		I've read in earlier notes that there is a sync switch
    inside the "1410?" Panasonic security camera recomended for Digiview
    Gold.
    		Is this switch common to most security cameras?

    	On another note, in one of the earlier postings of Digi-View,
     1481.2 to be exact, it was said that a reasonable image can be
    grabed straight from the VCR with the pause function.
    	I've tried a straight hook-up (VCR to DIGIVIEW) and ended up
    with a mosaic pattern (scrambled color info?) for a picture.
    	Could someone elaborate on this procedure.

    	P.S. I know I can only grab B/W pics from the VCR with a straight
    hook-up.
    						Thanks;

2752.5er.. I mean Digi-Paint III, not Dpaint III.SHARE::DOYLEFri Jul 21 1989 08:569
    re: .1,.2,

    Sorry about that, I meant Digi-paint III, not Deluxe-Paint III.

    	(I got Dpaint III, one week after sending in for my upgrade,
    	 I sent in for Digi-Paint III, at the same time (back in the
    	begining of May) and am still waiting.

2752.6The word from USENETCSOA1::LENDavid M. LenFri Jul 21 1989 09:317
    The word from USENET, is that DigiPaint 3.0 should start being sent
    out on July 24. As I recall the note indicated that NewTek claims
    manual printing problems.

    I have seen the same confusion between Deluxe-Paint and Digi-Paint
    on USENET. Maybe if we consistently use Roman numerals for Deluxe
    and digits for Digi, we can keep the confusion to a minimum.
