AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS IN THIS NOTES CONFERENCE, I HAVE SEEN REFERENCES
TO SUBSTITUTING A 68010 MICROPROCESSOR FOR THE ORIGINAL 68000 ON
THE AMIGA. I BELIEVE THIS IS A PLUG IN REPLACEMENT, BUT IS THERE
ANY NOTICIBLE INCREASE IN PERFORMANCE FROM THIS UPGRADE? CAN SOMEONE
SUGGEST A SUPPLIER FOR THE 68010? ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED!
REGARDS,

Works fine. I had one in my 500 for a while. Benchmarks (of various kinds) will show an improvement of 10-12% or so. Not really directly noticable. I have one I could sell real cheap if you want it. Send mail. John (who's selling just about everything these days:-)

Yeah, I blew ~$75. a couple years ago to put a 68010 in my A1000. Sad to say, I haven't noticed any kind of tangible improvement. Indeed, waiting for some products like FALCON to support 680x0 has been a frustration side effect. Save your dough, and go oh-two-oh...

Does a 1.3 system with a 68010 still have compatibility problems
with any software (including bootable games)? Are there a lot of
these? Are they patchable? Is the general opinion that the 68010
replacement isn't worth it?

Re: .3
It's not the OS, but _braindead_ software from ignorant programmers
that has problem. Period.
Unfortunately there are quite number of such ignorant/plain stupid
folks out there and most of them produce games. There's one patch
program out there that can fix non-custom boot block programs, and
I believe there's even one which survives reboot, read: can be used
to make custom boot block games usable.
*My* opinion is that it's only then worth it if you, a) needed a
new CPU anyway, or b) have one in spare.
