2693.0. "Workbench V1.2 v V1.3?" by PEKING::WILLIAMSC () Wed Jun 28 1989 08:31

    Can anyone tell me about WorkBench versions.

    I have WorkBench V1.2 installed on the hard disk of an Amiga B2000.

    Most manuals now seem to refer WorkBench V1.3

    What are the difference between the two versions and is it worth
    upgrading to V1.3?

2693.1Go get it, Collete. :-)FRAMBO::BALZERChristian Balzer DTN:785-1029Wed Jun 28 1989 08:4513

    The new version (~$ 40, DM 79) is definitivly worth getting.

    There are a lot of enhancements everywhere, like a Shell (CLI with
    editing and history), faster and better printer drivers, a new and
    MUCH faster filesystem for HD's, etc.
    The documentation is also alot better than the 1.2 docs.
    Besides, buying the 1.3 upgrade will make CBM believe that OS updates
    can at least be to some degree financed by the users.

    Re .0

    Something I don't understand. In your base note 2666.0 you said
    that your husband bought the Amiga five days previous; which (if
    my arithmetic is up to it) is 12 days ago. Unless there was some
    special deal, I would have thought that the Amiga should have come
    with WB 1.3; certainly all the systems (that I know of) in the UK
    ship with this version (they may not ship with Kickstart 1.3 ROMS).
    I bought mine about 1.5 months ago; it came with WB 1.3.

    I think in one of your replies to 2666, you said that your husband
    took the machine back to the supplier, who then built the system
    for him. Could they have put WB 1.2 on by mistake?

    Did you get any 3.5" Floppy discs that have something like Workbench
    V1.3 written on them?

2693.3V1.2 was what we gotPEKING::WILLIAMSCThu Jun 29 1989 07:537
    In answer to the last question

    When my husband bought the Amiga, the only disks we were given was
    Workbench V1.2 and an Extras Disk, a MS-DOS and GW BASIC 5.25" floppy
    Do you think I should go back to the shop and enquire why we did
    not get V1.3?

    The printer drivers are much faster in 1.3, also...and there is a
    bigger selection of printers available.
