2656.0. "How do you connect an LA75 to an Amiga B2000?" by PEKING::WILLIAMSC () Mon Jun 19 1989 10:07

    Can anyone explain in really easy format how I can use an LA75
    Companion Printer with an Amiga B2000

    I have seen some other notes on the LA75 but am not sure what they
    are telling me.

    I need to know:

    a) How to connect the LA75 printer to the Amiga B2000

    b) How to set up the Amiga to recognise the printer

    c) Any special cables or pieces of equipment I need.

    d) Any other information which you think I should know about regarding
       printing.

    Thanks in advance

    	1) Which version of the LA75

    RS423 = RS232 when using the BC16E supplied cable BUT you will need an
    adaptor H8571-D this then plugs into the serial port but I don't know
    how to set the Ami or printer up to use the serial port...

    Parallel. this plugs into the parallel port and you can set up the
    parallel port using PREFERENCE on the AMI (I beleive there is a P.D.
    driver for the LA75) but there is possible a switch pack to set it up
    to an Epson/IBM printer...

    I hope this helps

    You need the LA50 driver which should be on NORSE::UTILITIES, this
    goes in the DEVS/PRINTERS directory. It is then selected by
    preferences.

    If you are using 1.3, you will need the "printer.device" from WB
    1.2 to enable it to print graphics correctly, this is only if you
    use it as an LA75, if you set the switches inside the printer to
    IBM (yuck Il'l have to wash my fingertips now) emulation, you can
    use the EPSON generic printer driver from 1.3, a co-worker did this
    on his LA75 and he reports it works fine.

2656.3Careful, some pins carry power.SUBURB::MCDONALDAOld Elysian with a big D.I.C.Tue Jun 20 1989 05:2211
    Also, watch out for pins 9 and 10 (I believe) on the serial interface.
    These carry power. I almost came a cropper when I attached a printer cable
    with virtually all pins connected. It was blind luck, that pins
    9 and 10 had been pulled out.

    Being lazy, I just ran the Generic print driver supplied with WB
    1.3.

    Angus.

    Do any pins on the parallel interface carry power?
2656.4I'm using an LA75...ATLV5::MCDONALD_JSurly to bed, surly to rise...Tue Jun 20 1989 12:1915
I use an LA75 with my Amiga. I've got the LA75 in IBM emulation mode so I can
use the Workbench 1.3 printer drivers. (They're MUCH faster for graphics, and
supposedly provide some other capabilities... I haven't checked them out yet.)
I think I'm using the CBM???1000 printer driver. I'll try and remember to check
tonight. The only non-standard setting option I had to do on the LA75 was to
turn on "Auto LF on CR".

As for the cable, I made my own by cutting one end off a DECconnect cable and
wiring it into a standard RS232 connector (from Radio Shack). The pinouts for
the DECconnect plug end are on page 15 of the LA75 reference manual. I think
the RS232 pinouts and instructions on which wires connect to which pins are in
a previous note (try 1188). It's a really simple procedure.
