2638.0. "a couple of questions on expensive peripherals" by SHARE::DOYLE () Wed Jun 14 1989 14:48

	Has anyone used the digitizing pallette "Easyl".
  I'm interested in buying one if it is as natural a device as they say.
  What I'm worried about is buying one, and finding out that when you draw
a straight line it comes out jagged on the screen.
 I once bought the "Animation Station" with the digitizing pad for the C-64
only to find out that if you wanted to sketch, you were better off sticking with
pencil and paper...
 Before I dive in for ~$400 bucks I want to be sure it translates my drawing
smoothly to the screen.

	Next question....

	Another product I'm curious about is the "Zapshot" camera..
 This product got fantastic reviews in one of the computer mags, (I can't
remember wich).
	Then when talking with a friend who said he saw a review on some show,
 I was told it was given a thumbs down on picture quality.
	I love the idea of being able to have a portable camera that takes color
 pictures that can be directly imported into the Amiga through "Digiview".

2638.1$400 Kurta IS/ONEMEIS::ZIMMERMANFresh from the sewer!Wed Jun 14 1989 23:5916
    $400 seems a little pricey for an Easyl. I got an ad in the
    mail a while back from a company called Softel Computers, Inc.,
    which was offering a Kurta IS/ONE 12x12 tablet with a cordless
    4-button cursor for $395. Cordless pen, corded pen, corded
    cursor were an additional $100 each. No mention of software.
    Kurta bundles an Amiga driver called IS/PENCRAFT with their
    tablets, but you'd have to call to make sure that Softel's offer
    includes a driver, that it's the right driver, etc.

    Softel's address is:	25 Maple Lane

I have one, from a long time ago. My experiences are mixed. The resolution
of the easyl is far beyond the screen resolution, so you don't have to
worry about "jaggies" induced by the pad itself.

It requires somewhat more pressure than I am accustomed to when drawing, so
it's best for tracing from an existing drawing. It has a 1:1 size ratio to
the screen. I found I was able to "sketch" fairly effectively with it.
