It's at WJG::AMIGA:SIMCITY.ZOO (in general on WJG, look in WJG::AMNEW:
for new stuff that shows up. I stuff new things there till I download
them myself)
BTW- I checked this out Friday Night. Excellent demo of an Excellent Game!
My roomate saw it saturday morning and picked it up that afternoon. He
started playing it that night. I saw him early Sunday morning and said:
"Jeff, your up early", to which he replied: "I never went to sleep!".
I was afflicted with the same addiction Sunday night. If you like the demo, buy
the game!

2621.4 | Demo freezes hell over... | FRAMBO::BALZER | Christian Balzer DTN:785-1029 | Tue Jun 13 1989 03:36 | 16 |

From all what I hear here and on UseNET, SimCity seems like a real
beauty.
However, the SimCity demo I grapped from NORSE:: (PILAGE::) doesn't
work on my PAL B2000 w/ A2620, Obese Agnus, KS-1.3, A2090, A2052.
The demo freezes the system very fast and efficient, I only once
got an 02 type (bus error) guru from it.
This happens either from hard disk or if I boot the generated disk...
What really nags me is the fact that the ReadMe files states that
it should work fine on a A2500.
Oh well, another one down the drain...

2621.5 | Those stupidos dunno PAL!!! | FRAMBO::BALZER | Christian Balzer DTN:785-1029 | Tue Jun 13 1989 04:38 | 19 |
| Re: -1
I just booted the demo on my A500 w/A501 here in the office and
it also gives me a "Brainware error - Trash held" requester and
an instant deep-freeze.
Since this eliminates nearly all the factors that usually kill
braindead programs on my B2000 at home, it boils down to PAL.
I'm soooooooo fed up with this american ignorance!!!
Or did they put it in intentionaly to prevent the spreading of their
demo by those eager European pirates? 1/2 :-)
So PAL users beware...
If some of you U.S. folks are in contact with the company, you better
tell them to fix this quick, before they get flammed crisp.
Steaming,

2621.6 | Gurus or black bars, choose one | MQOFS::DESROSIERS | Lets procrastinate....tomorrow | Wed Jun 14 1989 15:49 | 10 |
| Re -.1
My problem is exactly inverse to yours, I have a multisync monitor,
but no flicker fixer (NEC multisync II). When I load up a PAL game
or demo, the screen "rolls" like a TV with the vertical sync control
turned either way, I get this big black bar that moves across the
screen from top to bottom. I don't think there is any other fix
than stop playing games or getting a flicker fixer.

2621.7 | How much control do you have? | AGNESI::MARK | Waltzing with Bears | Wed Jun 14 1989 16:41 | 19 |

Just how much control is available? Can you, for example, make a
fire tax voluntary, and not put out fires in buildings that haven't paid it?

Does the game impose arbitrary "goodness" to a particular set of
results? That is, does it say, at some point, the equivalent of "Your city
is in good shape, you've won." Or will it let you just watch results.
Also, do you have a free hand, or are there external constraints (the
equivalent of state and federal laws).

2621.8 | New SIMCITY conference | LEDS::ACCIARDI | | Mon Jul 24 1989 21:45 | 13 |
|
There is now an official NOTES conference dedicated to SimCity. Add
MECCA::SIMCITY to your personal notebook (sorry, I don't know how to
add the 'KP7' to my note).
This conference is shared by Mac, IBM and Amiga SimCity enthusiasts.
Remember, be nice to all those poor unenlightened souls who bought
defective Brand X computers. Since SimCity can save games to a common
format, there should be some interesting cross pollination.
Ed (Still haven't bought the game since Populous consumes all my waking
hours).
