2613.0. "Need PhotonPaint Help!" by NITMOI::WITHERS (So shines a good deed in a weary world..) Wed May 31 1989 20:02

    Help! I have PhotonPaint but can't figure out how to get PhotonPaint
    pictures into Dpaint II. For further use with PowerWindows (V2.0).
    Does anyone know what I have to do?

2613.1leads to another questionANT::JANZENcf. ANT::CIRCUITS,ANT::UWAVESWed May 31 1989 23:343
    Is it true that Photon paint is always in HAM mode, and DPAINT is
    never in HAM mode? Does DPAINT II have a HAM mode?

2613.3At least extra half-briteGRYHWK::WITHERSSo shines a good deed in a weary world..Thu Jun 01 1989 10:525
    Havent played enough to see HAM or not but it *always* seems to be in
    extra half-brite mode. The pallette displayed is 64 colors.

    HAM and extrahalfbrite are mutually exclusive. HAM uses 6 bit-planes,
    2 bits determine what color to change in the next pixel (r,g,b or load
    from color register) and 4 bits to stuff into the changed color.

    Extrahalfbrite also uses six bit-planes, but allows you to use the
    sixth bit plane to modify the intensity of the color register which
    was selected by the first 5 bits.

    I haven't played with HAM paint programs much either, so I'm not sure
    why there are 64 different colors displayed. HAM can reach any of the
    4096 colors in 3 pixels. By, for example, changing r, then g, then b.

	I do know that a brush file is what Powerwindows reads in... Maybe it
will deal will PhotonPaints brush files?

	Also Powerwindows is now up to version 2.5 and it *was* a free update
from 2.0. (I don't know if they are still doing this...)...

2613.6 Pixmate for HAM --> 32 (or 64)FREEBE::ROSCETTIA spurious Char@cterThu Jun 01 1989 17:3410
 I have both Photon Paint and Dpaint II (III). In order to pass pictures
between the two I use PIXMATE to do the conversion ( ham to 32 or 64 ).
If I remember correctly Photon Paint can read DPaint pictures but will
always save them as HAM.

 If you want to experiment with converting a couple of pics I can convert them
for you. Just send me mail. ( not on this node --- use meridn::roscetti)

    PowerWindows is a product that will allow you to easily
    design windows, menus, gadgets, etc... and save the results as
    a source file in C, assembler, Modula-II etc.
    Although I own the product and am rather satisfied with it, I can't
    recall the producer/distributor. Take a look at any Amiga mag.

Re: .7 SHARE::DOYLE
>> What is "Power Windows"?

	Going from memory (I actually own it, so this should be fairly
accurate.) Power Windows is a utility to help generate source code for
AMIGA screens, windows, menus, and all those other things that make up
windows... (gadgets, borders,....)

	It stores the info in its own format to allow for editting. You
actually use the mouse to position gadgets and such on the screen. You can
load IFF brushes for gadget images or menu item images.

	After you get the screen/windows looking the way you want it, you
generate source code. You can generate for bothe Lattice C amd MANX C.
Also supported are assembler, basic, modula II and a few other languages.

	This tool has saved me hours of fiddling to get a window to look right.
From their literature, all the screens in Version 2.5 were designed in Power
Windows.

	If you want more info, I can try to answer more questions.

2613.10More Questions....SHARE::DOYLETue Jun 06 1989 12:215
    Does this program incorporate the full color of the brush when
    imported?
    Or does it breakdown these brushes into already define screen colors
    (ie... workbench4color mode).

2613.11Colors? No problem.FRAMBO::BALZERChristian Balzer DTN:785-1029Tue Jun 06 1989 12:278

    If you use it on a custom screen you can use whatever colors there
    are.
    It's hard to display more than 4 colors on a two bitplane screen,
    though. :-) :-) ;-)

2613.12Is it worth going to V2.5NITMOI::WITHERSSo shines a good deed in a weary world..Tue Jun 06 1989 12:587
    While we're on the Power Windows discussion...

    I have V2.0 of Power Windows and was wondering if it is worth the $$$
    to get V2.5? Are there really good new features? Have things changed?

    What $$$'s are you talking about? As far as I can remember (it's
    been a while) I just did send 'em my ole original disk and in return
    received a new version + manual for no update charge whatsoever.
    The same was true when my fellow brewer Heiko Rath updated his C.A.P.E
    assembler with them.

2613.14Starting the Photon Paint Tutorial?WELCUT::JUPPStephen Jupp @wlo DTN 853-4344Tue Aug 29 1989 09:5815
    I need some really basic Photon Paint help. We've just become the
    proud owners of a second-hand A500. With it came Photon Paint disks,
    but no documentation.

    We've managed to get Photon Paint itself to work, and can do some
    work with it intuitively. I cannot get the Tutorial Disk to do
    anything. Double clicking on its icon opens a window, but it's
    empty. I can't find a way to it from Photon Paint itself. Help!

    We really need to get the Tutorial Disk to do something before we can
    extend our knowledge. It *must* be simple - but we can't figure it out.

    Please will some kind soul put us out of our misery! Thanks.

    Regards + Stephen.

    You should get the manuals from the people who sold you the A500.
    Without the manuals, the software isn't very useful. I hope you
    have original disks---if you don't, you may have received a stolen
    copy of Photon Paint.

    Sorry to be hard-nosed, but as a software developer myself, I am
    sensitive to the issue of software theft.

2613.16Real Disks, no DocWELMTS::JUPPStephen Jupp @wlo DTN 853-4344Tue Aug 29 1989 15:438
    No, they're the real thing - proper Photon Paint labels on the disks.
    I don't like theft either. The shop never got the manuals with the
    A500. Photon Paint was "thrown in" with the hardware.

    Anyone got a manual they could copy for me? If I can't get the
    Tutorial disk going any other way!

    Regards + Stephen.
2613.17SAUTER::SAUTERJohn SauterWed Aug 30 1989 08:203
    Even though you have the software legitimately, copying the manual is
    still a violation of its copyright.

2613.18PP I replacement?WAREGL::WILSONTLLead Trumpet (Read that...LEED!)Tue Jul 09 1991 14:185
    I heard that Aegis came out with a new paint program which replaces
    PhotonPaint II and works with AmigaDOS 2.x. Does anyone have any
    experience with this new package and what is it?
