HAM and extrahalfbrite are mutually exclusive. HAM uses 6 bit-planes,
2 bits determine what color to change in the next pixel (r,g,b or load
from color register) and 4 bits to stuff into the changed color.
Extrahalfbrite also uses six bit-planes, but allows you to use the
sixth bit plane to modify the intensity of the color register which
was selected by the first 5 bits.
I haven't played with HAM paint programs much either, so I'm not sure
why there are 64 different colors displayed. HAM can reach any of the
4096 colors in 3 pixels. By, for example, changing r, then g, then b.

will deal will PhotonPaints brush files?
Also Powerwindows is now up to version 2.5 and it *was* a free update

I have both Photon Paint and Dpaint II (III). In order to pass pictures
between the two I use PIXMATE to do the conversion ( ham to 32 or 64 ).
If I remember correctly Photon Paint can read DPaint pictures but will
always save them as HAM.
If you want to experiment with converting a couple of pics I can convert them
for you. Just send me mail. ( not on this node --- use meridn::roscetti)

PowerWindows is a product that will allow you to easily
design windows, menus, gadgets, etc... and save the results as
a source file in C, assembler, Modula-II etc.
Although I own the product and am rather satisfied with it, I can't
recall the producer/distributor. Take a look at any Amiga mag.

>> What is "Power Windows"?
Going from memory (I actually own it, so this should be fairly
accurate.) Power Windows is a utility to help generate source code for
AMIGA screens, windows, menus, and all those other things that make up
windows... (gadgets, borders,....)
It stores the info in its own format to allow for editting. You
actually use the mouse to position gadgets and such on the screen. You can
load IFF brushes for gadget images or menu item images.
After you get the screen/windows looking the way you want it, you
generate source code. You can generate for bothe Lattice C amd MANX C.
Also supported are assembler, basic, modula II and a few other languages.
This tool has saved me hours of fiddling to get a window to look right.
From their literature, all the screens in Version 2.5 were designed in Power
Windows.
If you want more info, I can try to answer more questions.

| Does this program incorporate the full color of the brush when
imported?
Or does it breakdown these brushes into already define screen colors
(ie... workbench4color mode).

If you use it on a custom screen you can use whatever colors there
are.
It's hard to display more than 4 colors on a two bitplane screen,
though. :-) :-) ;-)

What $$$'s are you talking about? As far as I can remember (it's
been a while) I just did send 'em my ole original disk and in return
received a new version + manual for no update charge whatsoever.
The same was true when my fellow brewer Heiko Rath updated his C.A.P.E
assembler with them.

2613.14 | Starting the Photon Paint Tutorial? | WELCUT::JUPP | Stephen Jupp @wlo DTN 853-4344 | Tue Aug 29 1989 09:58 | 15 |
| I need some really basic Photon Paint help. We've just become the
proud owners of a second-hand A500. With it came Photon Paint disks,
but no documentation.
We've managed to get Photon Paint itself to work, and can do some
work with it intuitively. I cannot get the Tutorial Disk to do
anything. Double clicking on its icon opens a window, but it's
empty. I can't find a way to it from Photon Paint itself. Help!
We really need to get the Tutorial Disk to do something before we can
extend our knowledge. It *must* be simple - but we can't figure it out.
Please will some kind soul put us out of our misery! Thanks.
Regards + Stephen.

| You should get the manuals from the people who sold you the A500.
Without the manuals, the software isn't very useful. I hope you
have original disks---if you don't, you may have received a stolen
copy of Photon Paint.
Sorry to be hard-nosed, but as a software developer myself, I am
sensitive to the issue of software theft.

2613.16 | Real Disks, no Doc | WELMTS::JUPP | Stephen Jupp @wlo DTN 853-4344 | Tue Aug 29 1989 15:43 | 8 |
| No, they're the real thing - proper Photon Paint labels on the disks.
I don't like theft either. The shop never got the manuals with the
A500. Photon Paint was "thrown in" with the hardware.
Anyone got a manual they could copy for me? If I can't get the
Tutorial disk going any other way!
Regards + Stephen.

still a violation of its copyright.
