2583.0. "Abacus books & C" by PANIC::SHORT (Peter Short, UK, A500) Fri May 19 1989 12:30

    Has anybody seen a review of the two Abacus books on the Amiga and
    C?

    I think they are Volumes #11 Beginers and #12 Advanced?

    The price in the UK seems to be the dollar equivalent (about 18
    if I remember correctly).

    (Foyles has them both in stock.)

2583.1I have the Beginners BookGLDOA::APPLEMANTue May 23 1989 15:5919
    I have the Beginners book and it seems to be alright. C is totally
    new to me and so far, I have been able to follow the book with no
    problems. It is structured as a tutorial and starts out quite simple
    then builds on itself. Short programs which demonstrate C principles
    are included thoughout the book.

    Whether it is the best book for learning C, I don't know. I feel
    that all of the Abacus books are overpriced for what you get. Also,
    there are a couple of typo's in the programs, but they should be
    obvious. I think that they should have included an overview of
    the C programming language and techniques at the start of the book.
    Instead, they start right into writing a short program.

    I guess that I would rate the book as fair to good and recommend
    it until something better and lower priced comes along.
