I'll like yet more help on handshake 2.12a and Xmodem Please.
I've tried just about all the Xmodem programs that I can see
(TAPE:: CGOU01::) and it seems I can't get a good download.
SETUP:-
Amiga 500 + A501(half meg)
Handeshake 2.12a
Racal-Vadic VI1222-PA modem (1200 Baud)
We have a dial back system in our office which is controlled by
a MicroVax 2 .
I was able to dial directly onto a server at one time which was
the only time I got any sort of download (I had files on my disk
but when I tried to De arc ARC023.bin came up with NOT AN OBJECT
121 error)
First I dial in LOG into the microvax which then drops the line
and dials me back.
Then after it has called I log in again to the microvax and finally
log into my vax. (via a set host command given by the microvax menu)
I tried to load a small file for a test an using xmodem crc mode
got either a time out waiting for a header or invalid header.
I checked the file I was coping and it was in Stream-LF mode.
so I tried several different Xmodem sized programs from various
sources.
NONE OF THEM SEEMED TO WORK not even in Y mode.
The vax is running 5.1 VMS
The AMI has KS 1.3 and I made up a autobooting disk with handshake
2.12a
HAS ANYBODY GOT ANY IDEAS....
My next option is to bring my system into the office one weekend
and see if I can get a good download
Thanks for any HELP...

| 2579.1 | Here's how I do it... | LOWLIF::DAVIS | That's not a BUG, it's a FEATURE! | Sat May 20 1989 02:36 | 15 |
Steve, This is the way I do ALL my downloads with never a hitch. If you want to check, the XMODEM that I use is at MDKCSW::DUA2:[DAVIS.AMIGA.TOOLS]. Just define it as a foreign command and use as follows: $ XMODEM:==$device:[directory]XMODEM $ XMODEM -is arcfile Is that what you are doing now?? It has _always_ been my experience that if VMS ARC likes the file (i.e. I can list the contents of the ARC), then it is good when I get it down to my Amiga. Let me know if I can give you any more info and we'll hash it out until you get it working!! ...richard | |||||
| 2579.2 | more information on Xmodem problem | YUPPY::GOLDSTEIN | Mon May 22 1989 10:30 | 22 | |
Thanks for your help.
Yes I have setup my account with xmodem as a foreign command.But
my problem seems to be the Microvax.(The dial back system runs on
this )
I've even tried Kermit and all this did was to drop the modem
line.
I think I'll try and bring my system into the office one weekend
and try that way.
The MicroVAX I log into first does not set the term char to
pasthrough or eightbit YET...I'm asking if this can be changed ..
Hope soon to be able to transfer data soon....

| 2579.3 | XMODEM failing half way through transmit | NEAGP::LASHUA | We're off to never never land | Sat Jan 04 1992 03:41 | 14 |
Hi. I need some help with Xmodem. I have v3.6 and use handshake
v2.12a. So far I've had no problems using KERMIT but can't seem
to get xmodem working. I use the command:
$ XMODEM FILE.TXT/SEND=TEXT/YMODEM
Under the TRANSFER menu on Handshake I select YMODEM BATCH for
Binary Protocol. When I execute the above command to send the
text file and select the receive binary under Handshake it starts
transmitting. after half the file has been sent it stops and
begins to print "Timeout waiting for next block". I've tried
everything I can think of but don't understand why it stops
half way during the trasmit. Any ideas?
- Jon.
