Yep, I used before I bought Dos2Dos.
The trick with PCUtil is that it looks specifically for an original
Amiga/CBM 5.25" drive. Like the 3.5" it identifies itself during
the config phase to the system (if I remember correctly it sends
eight "5"'s instead of "F"'s with the 3.5" drive).
I have an interface that mimics both drive types, so no problem.
There is some utility on a Fish disk >150 (PCPatch???) that might
do the trick, if that fails you better go out and get Dos2Dos.

Can you use nib or turboback that are in public domain?
I have a setup with external drives and those two and a few
other public domain software don't work. They respond with
a disk not present type of error. If interface works with
these types of programs, would you either send me a copy or
post it.
Thanks

2555.3 | DiskChange/DiskPresent problem? | FRAMBO::BALZER | | Thu May 11 1989 05:52 | 15 |
| Re: .2
I'll try to locate the schematics, but this wasn't a too simple
layout.
Anyway, what are those programs complaining about?
I beta tested TurboBackup, so let's take this for an example.
Does TB complain that there is no disk in drive, or doesn't it show
the drive as available at all?
If it misses a disk, you don't have a DiskChange logic, or it at
least doesn't work. This could be solved somewhat easier.
I'll get back to you on Tuesday,

I've never tried either of these so I don't know.
But that is the error I also get.

| Re: .3
TB recognize the external drive but after selecting and clicking
on GO, TB complain that there is "No Disk in Drive". After selecting
quit all the drives are accessed as if diskchange was given. The drives
are automatically recognized by AmigaDos.
NIB doesn't react as kindly, nib does something with the video so it
goes strange. The machine still responds but the video is unuseable
and will not exit.

2555.6 | Does AmiDOS detect disk changes? | FROCKY::BALZER | | Fri May 12 1989 04:22 | 11 |
| Re: -1.
Strange...
Does AmigaDOS detect disk changes? Without giving the Diskchange
comand? If so, something very subtle is wrong here.
I'm still looking for the schematics and I will meet the co-author
of TurboBackup, Martin Kopp today and explain this problem to him.
Maybe he knows something I don't.
'till then,

| RE: .6
No, Amigados doen't recognize an autodisk change. The diskchange
command does work. But, apparently when Turbobackup exists all
the disk are revalidated.
The circuit I'm using is modified from the one posted on usenet so
that it would handle 3 drives.

2555.8 | Ya need hardware diskchange. | FRAMBO::BALZER | | Tue May 16 1989 11:41 | 15 |
| Re: -1
OK, what you need is a hardware diskchange generator. This could
either be a pushbutton or some curcuit that really senses if a disk
is inserted or not.
I'm still looking for that schematics, but I guess I'll have to
redraw 'em. But if I remember correctly, you'll only have to change
the level on the diskchange line (or whatever it is called) on the
23DB connector.
But that I check out with original CBM drafts I have at home, so
to be on the safe side, wait 'till tomorow and I'll explain that
in some more detail.

RE: .8
I know that I could put a momentary-on push button on line 11 connect
to ground. But, how would this help the programs, like Turbobackup
and NIB? The button would make my life easier as far as changing
disks.
