Hi Guys, Has any one heard of M.A.S.T's PARALLEL PORT SCSI/DISK interface ? I phone them up and they said that it works just as well as the EXPANSION Port types BUT you can have a longer lead. It has PASS THRU for a printer and can control up to seven drives. They quote it as having 2.5 MEG/sec Transfer rate.They use Segate drive units 3.5" size and they are working on a DMA type. Does anybody have a list of the different HD controllers wheather they are DMA or not for the AMY 500/1000/2000 ? I'm still trying to find the cheapest way to connect up my AMY 500 with a disk drive and possible extra memory (I already have 1 MEG. A500+A501) Thanks for any help Steve G...

2525.1 | Go for DMA... | FRAMBO::BALZER | Wed May 03 1989 06:00 | 15
I'll be uploading the latest revision of my HD controller review on Friday, so just some short remarks. If you can afford it, get a DMA style controller like the A590 (which will also give you that RAM you want). The M.A.S.T interface strikes me as a bad (but probably cheap) design, since it won't DMA and you will have some problems printing AND accessing those disks. And if (which I beg to doubt strongly) they can transfer 2.5 MB/s, your system will be doing nada, nichts, rien, nothing else. Later, - <CB>
2525.2 | waiting for the A590 | ADODEM::MCGHIE | Wed May 03 1989 21:46 | 6
I'm waiting for the A590 to be released here in Australia. It seems to me to be one the the better options for hard disk/memory expansion. Mike
2525.3 | Really Soon Now... ;-) | FRAMBO::BALZER | Fri May 05 1989 11:15 | 9
The A590 should be out in the "nighted states" by now, and will be in civilized world RSN. Sorry for not uploading my review today, but I somehow munged that floppy, so it'll be monday. See ya, - <CB> |
