2509.0. "Search for decent video interface <$60" by ANT::JANZEN (T - 500 picoseconds and counting) Wed Apr 26 1989 09:55

Is there a cheap video interface (not c-view) that is half-decent,
say about as good as the amigen, but without any genlock features,
just to be able to record decently off the amiga500?
Don't bother answering to say, "buy an $800 genlock". Answer only
with exact knowledge of a vendor and model number of an rgb-ntsc
non-rf interface.
Thankyou for not speculating, guessing, or offering half-remembered
rumours.

Check out Creative MicroSystems' RGB=> converter. Sorry for not
remembering the model number, but (half-rumor mode) I've heard that
it's far superior to C-View.

If this info is far worse than nothing at all, then accept my heartfelt
apologies.

2509.2Isn't Creative Micro and RF (channel 3) convertor?ANT::JANZENT - 500 picoseconds and countingWed Apr 26 1989 10:264
I vaguely remember (probably incorrectly) that the Creative
Microsystems things I saw in Computer Amiga magazine last night
were RF. Do they also have ntsc video out?

2509.3A520 is the thing.AYOV28::ATHOMSONC'mon, git aff! /The Kelty ClippieWed Apr 26 1989 10:419
The exact thing you want is an A520. It plugs into the A500 rgb
video port and has a composite colour output for connection to your
favourite VCR. (it also has a RF output if you feel the need...)

Costs here in the UK (pal version) about #23 (pounds stg) but I
know that an ntsc version exists @ <$50.

CMS sells two versions, composite video out and composite with RF
out. I have the A2000 version and it is quite good.

I got mine at the Memory Location.

How much was it at the Memory Location? I think I will pick one
up on the next trip down to Mass. Does either version have
passthru or do you have to disconnect the monitor when you want to
use it.

Another option may be the VI2000-RF for about $US85. This sits in
the 2000 video slot and provides RF, Composite and Chroma/Luma.
There is also a VI500 for the 500 that has similar functionality
from the Monitor output.

regards.... Clint

Mine is the 2000 version so I don't know about the 500 one. They
all sell for less than $100.

2509.7More variety of choice that I expectedANT::JANZENT - 500 picoseconds and countingWed Apr 26 1989 14:334
Just now on the phone I heard a distant rumour from a Memory Location
sales person that all they have is a CMI V1, @$80, which has
rf, composite, luminance, chrominance all out.

2509.8QUESTIONS ON COMPARISONS.SHARE::DOYLEThu Apr 27 1989 09:339
I have a chance to pick up an A520 for $40.
If this can display on my T.V., can I pick up the same signal on
my VCR?
Why are the prices so drastically different for these converters.
I realize a Gen-Lock can blend the pictures, but I also have seen
some large price tags on the straight converters.
Thanx;

you can record an rf signal by attaching it to the vcr antenna input
and tuning to channel 3 or 4, whatever the (in the USA) encoder
modulator is tuned to.
