| I installed QMouse 1.5 on the weekend and noticed the same thing.
Turning off QMouse to install a disk is a pain. I will probably
try 1.2 since you indicate it doesn't have this problem.

| It's merely a task priority problem. I believe QMOuse runs around
priority 25. There are two fixes ... 1) Use the Qmouse Patch program
which allows you to change the priority of QMouse 1.5 or 1.51, or
2) Discard V1.5 and use the latest release V1.52 which corrects
the problem you've described.

Thanks for the pointer to the new version. It works great.
Just a side point. I tried using the auto-activate feature (i.e.
when the the mouse pointer enters a window it is automaticly
activated). This feature seemed to work fine, except for Word Perfect.
When I would exit, the exit requester came up and the active indicator
would flicker and flash between the requestor and the main window.
This was also accompanied with a severe mouse slow-down. It would
stop when I got the pointer well inside the requestor. But, I
considered it enough of a problem to disable that feature. Has
anyone else seen this kind of behavior?

Thanx also for uploading the new version.
re: -1
I haven't used QMouse with word perfect yet but I have also noticed
a different bug with V1.52 that wasn't in V1.5. V1.52 fixes the
VirusX problem but I find that when opening a drawer icon that the
window is not opened as the front window most times. This requires
me to then click the front window (one with the Drawer icon) to
the back to have the newly opened window in front. Strange! V1.5
didn't have feature. I've tried playing with various combinations
of options and it still seems to do this MOST times. Occaisionally
it works as expected. Has anyone else seen this?

| re: -1
I don't spend much time on the Workbench screen, I'm usually in
the Shell. But I did observe the behavior you described. I assumed
that it was related to the fact that in Qmouse a double click means
bring the window to front. And that it was some timing issue.
I believe the doc said something about a priority change.

Lyman Epp has released version 1.6 of QMouse. This version allows the
user to set the priority level so as to prevent contention with
certain terminal programs. The default priority is 5.
The new version is in NORSE""::AMIGA:[UPLOAD]QMOUSE16.ZOO and is in
STREAM_LF format for Xmodem downloading.

| I think you should take another look at that arc file. It does
not contain any version of QMouse. It contains Qview some file
viewer utility. So the file NORSE""::AMIGA:[UPLOAD]QMOUSE16.ZOO
should be renamed or deleted.
I would like to give QMouse 1.6 a try though.

I'll have to check exactly what I put in that file. I had a full set
of files in RAM: which I zoo'ed using Diskmaster. I may have screwed
up and put together the wrong package.
Sorry for any inconvenience, and please don't download until I post a
clarification here.

Yep, I scrood up. There is a new file in NORSE""::AMIGA[UPLOAD] called
Real_QMouse16.zoo. Grab this one instead of the one named
'QMouse16.zoo'
By the way, the accidental 'Qmouse16.zoo' file is actually a very slick
ASCII/Hex text viewer, called QView, by Lyman Epp, the very author of
QMouse. I'd recommend downloading it also, since it is much nicer than
the More file viewer provided by CBM. It has a search feature and
verticle scroll bars. It is also re-entrant and can be made resident.
However, I don't believe that it can be configured with the GetEnv
function as More can.

| On a related (sort-of) note, is anyone having problems with QMouse mucking up
your pointer when running other programs. (Most memorable is Phasar, but I've
seen it on another program too.) It seems that if I'm running QMouse and I
invoke Phasar, I don't have a pointer any more. Instead, I have a long
vertical band of scattered, multicolored bits. It's about 1/2 an inch wide
(just as wide as the normal pointer), but stretches from the bottom of the
screen up to about the halfway mark.
I liked QMouse, but have switched back to MachII, which doesn't cause this
pointer scrambling.
Any ideas?

I also had the problem you mention. It went away when I switched
from version 1.4 to 1.52. Which version are you currently running. If
not 1.52 or the newer 1.6, then try the newer version. It is in norse::

| I am currently using QMouse 1.6, and I have never seen any pointer
get trashed in any way. I do not have Phaser, but I have used many
programs that alter the pointer shape. The only time I have really
trashed the pointer was when I was trying to run one of the pointer
animations, and didn't have it set up correctly.
The only negative I have seen with the current version of QMouse
the combination of using the Automatic window activation feature
and WordPerfect. The active indicator would flicker between the
main screen and a requestor. So I just disabled that feature.
You may want to do some testing and see if the problem only occurs
with certain QMouse settings.

| I have this intermittent problem with my system that I hope
someone here can help me fix. My mouse pointer will sometimes just
"lock up". The pointer will freeze and the left mouse button will not
do anything. The right mouse button will however still change the title
bar to display any potential pull down menus. I put this reply in this
note because I suspect Qmouse to be the villian. I am running
VirusX 4.0, and Qmouse 1.6 as well as Wbiconify, NAG(commercial version)
and Mymenus, as background tasks. I am unable to force the "lock up"
condition. The last time It locked up I was doing a file copy from df0:
to dh0: from diskmaster. when it locked up, both the disk drives leds
remain on. Any ideas or similar experiences?

Roger,
After your call (I hate those transatlantic lines ;-) and reading
this note, I can only repeat my suggestion to remove the nifty tools...
It is well known that VirusX 4.0 is buggy (an update is on the way,
I believe), I discarded WBiconify because it crashed my system under
certain circumstances. Now, NAG Plus is very nice program with a
very subtle bug: It used to pop my screens around, even if no event
was due. I was able to exchange it at my dealer for Dungeon Master.

| Yes, you are probably correct it is Qmouse. I sometimes get the same
lock-up. This is also a known problem with Dmouse. I don't know if
MachII has the same problem. For me it only happens when clicking on
an icon, vs. menu selection or window gadgets. I think it is related
to some interaction of the double-click icon-activate with the
double-click window-to-front feature. I spend most of my time in the
Shell so I don't get hit too often. I have thought about turning off
the window-to-front feature and see if that would help, but I haven't
tried it yet.

| Re: .19
Yes, thats a bug in Intuition, which doesn't like WindowToFront
or Back events while having an icon selected. However I don't think
that this is Rogers problem, since he says that the right mouse
button still brings up the menu bar, which wouldn't happen if Intuition
just crashed. ;-)
Theres a patch called WTFPatch3, which comes with one of the numerous
mouse tools (which name escapes me, of course) on one of #>250 Fish
disks, that fixes this problem very nicely...

WTFPatch - A patch for the Intuition bug in WindowToFront.
Version - 3

I can be reached at Bloom Beacon 416-283-5924.
This program may be freely distributed.
WTFPatch3 corrects the bug in Intuition's WindowToFront
and WindowToBack routines. The bug causes the machine to freeze when
a window pops to the front while the user is moving an icon.
The patch works by making Intuition drop all icons before
performing the WindowToFront/Back.
The patch is installed by copying it to your c: directory and
including a 'WTFPatch3' statement in your start-up sequence. Make
sure you remove any reference to the previous version of the
patch (they should not be run together).
