| I have completed this game - below are a few mild spoilers...
as you are playing the game you will notice that the attackers always
come in the same wave patterns. ie at certain spots in the game
certain enemy types appear. in several points of the game a
pinkinsh/white/red group of enemys appear (they do not fire at you)
and move in a slow and tight formation from one side of the screen
to the other. when you shoot ALL of them (quite easy I assure you)
a metal ball appears and moves left to right across the screen several
times. Allow yourself to be struck by the bal;l 3 times. If you
have less than 3 smart bombs, the first two passes by the ball will
provide you with an extra smart bomb. The 3rd pass will give you
rapid fire (temporarily)
When you kill X number of points worth of enemys a number in a square
will move up the screen/across the screen/down the screen. You have
to shoot this number....a gun part will appear...you should then
fly over the gun part to attach it to your ship. There are 5 parts
and each makes you more powerful...but a larger target.
one word on these parts. If your have for example parts one and
two, and you see part 3 appear, and in the process of trying to
fly over it you get hit once, you will NOT be able to use thie 3rd
part (you can tell when you lose power - your fire becomes less
powerful) YOU HAVE TO PICK UP/HOLD ONTO ALL FIVE PARTS IN SEQUENCE.
never fear however. If you lose part of the guns, the computer simply
makes a note of this and adjusts the gun part numbers that appear
accordingly.
At the end of each screen is the mother ship. this can be killed
2 ways...
By firing smart bombs (need 3 to kill)
By shooting of left wing/right ring/middle of mother ship until
it fries!!!!
hope that helps....

I'm sure you guys are aware of this but if you are on the screen where
you select the commander and you hit a space bar you will get the
setup screen. You can greatly ease the game pressure with this screen.
I believe the new ship types come along based on time, not on how
many enemy you destroy. The setup screen allows you to set the time
between expansions.
Has anyone finished the third level? Is there a fourth?

Steve,
I finished the the third level, that's where you meet the
mother ship. It aint called a "mother" ship for nothing either!
You cycle back to the first level after completing the third.

| Haven't tried yet but here is a "cheat" trick.
at the end of a game, when it asks you to enter you name,
enter "COMMANDER", press fire then a menu will appear.
F10 gives you unlimited lives and F2 to F6 more weapons etc...
Let Lt. Maverick or Lt. Lovett know if that trick "does it"....

| As I recall the "cheat", you must not start playing the game. You must
wait patiently until the High Scores screen appears. Then type the word
COMMANDER, I don't know if you need to make sure it is upper case or
not. But, remember that what you type will NOT be displayed. I
believe F10 is invulnerability. Also, I think I remember something
about one key must be hit to enable all the others. If you have a
problem I will try to find my reference.
