Is there any software around that will write a macintosh readable diskette? I want to write an ascii file/files to my 3 1/2" second drive and then put that diskette into a mac and read it. Thanks, Bob

Central Coast Software has been advertising Mac-2-Dos, a combination Macintosh floppy and custom interface that allows the Amiga to read and write directly to Mac disks. A custom driver is included that allows the Mac to read/write standard Amiga disks. Central Coast Software 424 Vista Avenue Golden, Colorado 80401 (303) 526-1030

Re: .0 In case you are wondering, the reason why Central Cost sells a software and hardware package to read and write Mac diskettes is that Macs use strange floppy drives that spin at different speeds when writing different cylinders.

Yeah, Apple has been using (for years) a WOZ wonder chip in all their floppies, from the Apple II to the Mac line. However, in a stroke of innovation, the new drives in the SE/30 and IIx/IIcx have a NEW wonder controller that allows the drive to directly read and write Mac 400/800K, and MS-Dos 720/1440K floppies. I'd love to see the Amiga have an upgraded drive with these capabilities, but I understand that it would require an extensive hardware redesign in the Paula area. Ed. |
