Can anyone tell me anything about any known good products that allow your dot matrix printer function as a plotter? I saw something in the last AMIGA magazine I bought, and it indicated high quaility plotting on your on printer. Is there anything on public domain, that works? Is any one using MCAD or MCAD125? Is MCAD or MCAD125 superior? Also, if you were to store your drawing, could you lets say upload it to a Vax and then print it to an HP plotter? If yes is this a rather simple task? mike

PlotPrint is a commercial product that converts HPGL output files (which most CAD programs create) to files that can be printed on any dot matrix, inkjet or laser printer. Their ad claims that the package supports color, scaling and rotation and has a preview feature. The price is $50 for standard Amigas and $100 for 68020/68881 models. This isn't an endorsement or anything, just passing along information. Hi-Tech Graphics P.O. Box 446 Tallmadge, Ohio 44278 On our UniGraphics CAD systems at work, we frequently send plot files to HP plotters. However, the file transfer takes place under control of UniGraphics, not VMS, so I don't know how to directly do it, although I'd love to learn. If you can find a system manager who has some Valid workstations connected to HP plotters he may know how the files are sent. If you can find out, do let us know. Ed. | |||||
2449.2 | HPGL specs and/or plotter wanted. | SUBSYS::BUSCH | Dave Busch, NKS1-2/H6 | Thu May 11 1989 15:13 | 13 |
I have a home built plotter which I've had running on my C-64 off of the parallel port. I'd now like to upgrade it to run with the A-500. This would require adapting my Sym-1 (6502 based) processor board to receive HPGL instructions and convert them to the hardware commands to run the stepper motors in the plotter. Can anyone direct me to a copy of the spec for the HPGL standard? If I can't get that to work well, I'd be inclined to buy a plotter for the system. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive plotter capable of handling "B" size (11" x 17") paper. Does anyone have one for sale used? Dave |
