2429.1 | Mail Order | GERTA::MCGHIE | | Tue Apr 04 1989 09:53 | 30 |
| Hi Dave,
I've just been through the same loop (i.e. I'm visiting the US
currently and wanted to pick up some cheap software).
I haven't actually been to a computer shop here in Mass. or in Nashua.
I rang up one place and their prices were expensive compared to
mail order.
So I placed an order with Abel Supply's yesterday and am supposed
to have the goods delivered to my motel tomorrow. Their prices were
a lot cheaper than buying from a store or even the other mail order
companies. However as previous notes in this conference indicate,
only order what they have in stock (ask if it is in stock when you
ring). I suspect that is probably the safest approach with any of
the mail order companies. Also as per earlier postings in this
conference when ringing Abel, their phones are rather busy, which
means you have to keep trying if you don't get through in the first
few attempts.
I've not bought any graphic programs. I would assume that most of
the US graphics software would display on a PAL Amiga but
the display image might be smaller than a version written specifically
for PAL amigas. The difference between NTSC and PAL Amigas is the
number of scan lines etc in the display.
Would somebody else like to correct me if I'm wrong on that point?
Regards
Mike

2429.2 | FALCON | GERTA::MCGHIE | | Tue Apr 04 1989 14:49 | 9 |
| I have had a copy of JET for over a year and recently got FALCON.
I haven't had a lot of opportunity since I got it to play with FALCON
but basically I think it is superior. There is a large discussion
on it in 2035. I think when I read through the note, the basic consensus
was that it was better than any prior jet flight simulator.
regards
Mike

| Can anyone give me directions on how to get to some Amiga only
computer store which I believe is around junction 8 off Route 3
in NH ?
Thanks,
Dave.

Probably refers to System Eyes, on rt. 101a, in Penachuk Square. Take
exit 8 off Rt. 3, follow until this road ends in a T. Take right, going
west on 101a towards Amherst/Milford. Penachuk Square is a couple miles
or more, on the right. Look for a large red building (Friendly's Ice
Cream) on the right just before a traffic light with a defunct Scandinavian
Design ("FOR LEASE") on the left. Turn in right after Friendly's, System
Eyes is in the back row of stores, near the left end.
Phone is 603 889 1234.

| Well, I found System Eyes.
They seemed to have quite a good selection of software, but didn't
appear to be cheap !!
Anyway, I bought some game called '1942'. It's a World War II
Battle in the Pacific simulation. Anyone tried it ?
-Dave.

| They have a 10% membership discount (like Mem Location). I have
also discovered that they will barter a bit on price, especially
if you are the only one in the store during the week.
Technically they aren't as sharp as the guys at Mem Location.
