2428.0. "PostScript support for non-PostScript printers" by ESOCTS::SANFORD () Mon Apr 03 1989 23:08

This was posted in an Atari on-line newsmagazine:

Northboro, MA Pixelations Inc. is making a program called Printscript
------------- for the Amiga which allows Postscript files to be
                   printed on non-Postscript laser, ink jet, or dot matrix
                   printers. Cost: $89.95. If you want more information
                   on this product, and its availability for other
                   computers, they can be reached at 1-508-393-7866....

An ATARI user gave them a call - their product is for real! But they
currently have only two fonts. They also don't build the entire image in
memory, but sort of compose it on the fly. But they still recommend a
megabyte of memory.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

	I am interested in the packages that print PostScript files on
	non-postscript printers and have read a couple of ad's in AmigaWorld.

	I wonder if anybody else knows/has_bought/has_read anything about them
	and can give me some advice or warnings. There are two that I have seen
	regularly advertised; one is PrintScript (from Pixielations, Northboro
	MA) and the other is PageStream (from Soft-logik, St Louis MO).

	To partly answer my original note, AmigaWorld have a column at the
	back of the magazine where they warn buyers about companies that
	seem to be having difficulties (financial or otherwise). Apparently,
	(according to March's AW) Soft-Logik have been advertising PageStream
	for 11 months and still have not shipped anything.

	Re: Pixielations, I have written for more information.

Soft-Logic's PAGESTREAM product is NOT a PostScript clone, but rather,
it is a desktop publishing system that generates PostScript output that
you can print on any PostScript compatible printer. Let me assure you -
this product has been shipping for the Atari ST for several months now.

Granted, it took them about six months longer than they said it would
when they announced it, but it's here now, so that's all irrelevant.

	Maybe it has been shipping for the Atari for some time but I
	suspect that the information I got from AmigaWorld refers to
	the Amiga version of the package.

2428.5I think I saw it.HYSTER::DEARBORNTrouvez MieuxTue Apr 04 1989 14:118
    I'm pretty sure I spotted PageStream on the shelves at System Eyes
    in Merrimack, NH about 2 weeks ago.

    It is a desktop publishing system that competes with Professional
    Page from Gold Disk.
