Note 788.3 VAXstation 100?? 3 of 3

To supplement what .2 says: The VAXstation 100 was announced in May
1982, and began shipping in late 1984, only to be cancelled almost
immediately.
It consisted of a 19" monochrome monitor, keyboard, mouse, and
electronics, most of which went into a board that plugged into a
Unibus. To make a workstation in the modern sense, you would have to
combine the VS100 with a Unibus-based VAX. Yes, there was a 68000
inside.
The VS100 had software support only under VMS. We donated a large
number of them to MIT, plugging into a large number of donated 750s.
Since MIT was running mostly Unix, they were forced to write a new
windowing system, which evolved into X and DECwindows.
