2334.0. "SOME AMIGA TECH TRICKS" by RAIN::BARRETT (Keith Barrett HTF) Tue Mar 07 1989 16:31
I thought I'd post this in case someone found it interesting.
1) The ALIAS command in WB 1.3 accepts a lot more characters than
the usual alphanumeric set. It is possible to modify your shell-startup
procedure to include such things as:
ALIAS SHOW/QUE PRINT (For those with a backround spooler)
ALIAS STOP/ID= BREAK
ALIAS SPAWN/NOWAIT NEWCLI
It is possible to define an ALIAS that terminates with a trailing
space, so that something like:
ALIAS PRINT PRINT -t<space>
will produce "PRINT -t test" and not "PRINT -ttest" when used.
REMEMBER that the ED and MED editors automatically remove trailing
spaces from a file, so actually putting a trailing space in the
shell-startup will require the use of a different editor.
2) VIP can be installed on a harddisk, but it requires some clever
editing of the executable program with a binary editor like NEWZAP
to change the df%d definitions to hd%d.
