2307.0. "Shrinking Diskettes" by HANNA::CROMACK () Thu Mar 02 1989 08:08

I have a diskette question. The diskettes are supposed to be
880k diskettes but when I say 'info' it says my diskettes are
837k.  Is this normal?

    I,m not sure but it may have something to do with the .info files
    for the disk,trashcan etc.
2307.2file system overheadSAUTER::SAUTERJohn SauterThu Mar 02 1989 09:418
    I think INFO is taking into account the fact that the floppy's file
    system doesn't put 512 bytes of user data in each sector. Some of the
    512 bytes are taken to support the file system.

    Until 1.3, that same file system was also used for hard disks. As of
    1.3, you have the option of using FFS, which puts 512 bytes of user
    data in a 512-byte sector.
