| re .1
No it is not a V5.0. It is V4.1. I have it and I like it although
I have found that the Hard disk installation instructions are not
perfect and it took almost 6 weeks to recieve it.

| It is rumored that the next version of the AMIGA WP will be V6.0
and will include all of the features of V5.0 on the PC's etc.
Earliest would be around Christmas but they won't give you a date.

re V4.1 - 5.0 - 6.0 if their upgrade prices of $50 for MS-DOS to V5.0
and $40 for library 1.1 to 2.0 hold for 4.1 to 6.0 then it seems like a
pretty good deal, ....?? I might try this, Amigas are Vax compatible,
right ? Well, at SOME level they must be :-^)

In fact, the rumor is Word Perfect Version 6 was developed on the Amiga
and ported to OS/2. Version 6 was originally to be developed on ATs under
MS/DOS, but the Amiga provided a much better environment for developing
software for a multitasking, windowing machine.
The rumor was spread by Robert X. Cringely in "Info World."

| I would like to hear from someone who has taken advantage of this
deal. In particular, what was the turnaround time? Is there a
time limit on the deal? How is employement verified? Does the
form expect the company address or can it be sent to our home address?
I am seriously considering taking advantage of this deal. But before
I buy I would like to know how Amiga implementation compares to other
versions. (i.e. are there any differences in functionality,
performance, or user interface.) How does the spell checker compare?

2262.7 | I wrote my thesis with it. | DEBIT::SOO | Chong Soo | Fri Mar 10 1989 18:36 | 9 |
| I have used WP on a PeeCee and I have it on my Amiga. The Amiga
version is infinitely better due to the windows, mouse, menus and
that it is WYSIWYG to some degree. However, if you have only 512K,
you should know how to redirect some of the "overflow" temperary
files from the RAM: to your disk, or it would run out of memory
often. The spell checker and thesaurus run well, too, except the
bothersome disk access for looking up words.

2262.8 | Expired ? | ULTRA::BURGESS | | Mon Mar 13 1989 08:57 | 12 |

I called them last thursday to see how long it would take to get
it to me (I HATE the "allow 6 to 8 weeks for delivery" deals). The guy
I spoke to said that deal had expired at the end of december (???!!). I
protested that it hadn't hit the (digital) net and notes conference until
"a coupla weeks ago, waddya mean its expired ?" (but I said it all kinda
nicely). He said he'd check to see if an extension were possible and call
me back, I havn't heard, but was out of the office since that day (weds).
I'll probably call back later today.

2262.9 | Amiga-WP works for me | NEWVAX::FILER | | Mon Mar 13 1989 11:56 | 11 |
| I ordered WP last fall. It seems to me it only took 3-4 weeks
for delivery. I was disapointed that the Amiga version did not support
graphics while the IBM version does (if you can call that graphics).
Except for that I've had no problems except for a nagging problem
with RAM: It seems they keep placing things there but don't always
remove them....A reboot cleans this up fast. I have your basic
A500 with only the standard 512k and one disk. If you have large
docs. the disk fills up but we use it mostly for my sons schoolwork
and we keep cleaning up the old files on the disk.

2262.10 | Offer still good | LEVERS::PLOUFF | Semipro Semiologist | Mon Mar 13 1989 12:20 | 10 |
| re: .8
That's odd... I ordered in February and got the package in about
five weeks. Haven't played with WP much yet, but it appears that
it's pretty heavy duty stuff.
As far as making memory disappear... I asked the requisite dumb
question of their tech support line. WP leaves behind a rather
large library, which will disappear as soon as you need the memory.
