o How are you trying to copy them, from workbench or CLI?
o What error(s) do you see when you try the copy?

2235.2 | use the icon method | SHARE::DOYLE | | Mon Feb 13 1989 16:00 | 13 |
| I had the same problem when I first received my external drive.
Then I read my manual.
There are a few ways to back up your disk, using both "workbench"
and "cli".
This is what I do.
1). boot to workbench.
2). replace wb disk with disk you wish to copy, place the destenation
disk into the second drive.
3). when icons for both disks register on workbench screen, use
mouse and drag source icon to your destination icon (place it over
it). Workbench will giude you through the rest.

2235.3 | Success! | SYSTEM::HELLIAR | | Mon Feb 20 1989 10:58 | 10 |
| Re : 2235.1 I was using the workbench duplicate function. I got no
errors but it always wanted both the source and destination disk to be
placed in the same drive.
Re : 2235.2 Great. It works and I even found a reference to it in the
Amiga manual.
By the way. My manual has most of the index pages missing. A frind who
has also just bought an Amiga has the index but some of the other back
pages are missing. Is this a common problem with Amiga manuals?

2235.4 | Making DISKCOPY resident? | SUBSYS::BUSCH | Dave Busch, NKS1-2/H6 | Mon Feb 20 1989 12:26 | 6 |
| I prefer to use the CLI DISKCOPY function since the volume label it creates on
the copy doesn't say COPY_OF_.... I don't recall seeing a DISKCOPY file in the
:C directory but there is one elsewhere ( I don't remember where). Can someone
tell me how to make DISKCOPY resident so I don't have to keep replacing WB 1.3?
Thanks in advance, Dave

2235.5 | DiskCopy without swaps | TLE::RMEYERS | Randy Meyers | Mon Feb 20 1989 20:37 | 13 |
| Re: .4
DiskCopy is in the System drawer. I do not know if you can make it resident:
you may not be able to.
Workbench users can create a System drawer in RAM: or RAD:, and copy
DiskCopy and Format to it. Perform an ASSIGN SYS: RAM: (or RAD:) and
Workbench can copy disks or format them without the Workbench disk.
CLI users can also copy DiskCopy and Format to RAM: or RAD: (they don't
have to create a System drawer in RAM: if they don't want to). They
then can use PATH RAM:system (or where ever they stored the programs)
to cause the CLI or SHELL to search the ram disk to find those commands.
