| A similar thing happenned some years back with the C64 when it was
first released - prices were reasonable - then they skyrocked -
but within a year they plummeted again.....
lets hope the same can be said for the Amiga...

| I just have priced a 2500 with a tradein of my A1000 and was quoted
a price of $3200 big ones. Unfortunately this was a little out
of my range. The dealer that I talked to kinda mumbled the price
as he said it.

There's a sinister force at work here; probably greed.
My brother-in-law is a whiz-bang marketeer for Apple. I love to
show him my killer A2000 and demand to know how Apple can possibly
justify $3500 for a tiny Mac SE with a mono screen and 20 meg drive.
His answer has always been 'because people line up to buy them.'
When I asked aboutthe substantial price cuts recently announced by
Apple, the answer was '...because sales have dropped off.'

| My fault for the confusion. I'm talking Oz dollars (=$US0.89).
A 2500 is $12,500.
The $A1500 was my NEC Multisync II ($A1100 by mail order) and half
the Microway deinterlacing board. I wanted the expandability of
the 2000, a high res I can use, and Fat Agnes, but now I'm stuck
with my 512K 1000. Stuff them.

| Could you save money by buying it in some other country? If you can
save more than airfare it can pay for a vacation. What about

| David,
the price was put up after a meeting of dealers last week. One
dealer told me to get in quick if I wanted to get it at the old
price. Most dealers hold virtually no inventory here, but this dealer
said they had around 75 Amiga 2000's. It is Microcomputer Spot in
Chatswood. You may be lucky if you call them (02)419-2333, no
guarantees.
Also, the price differential is probably a localised attack
of greed on the part of Commondorks Australia, given past pricing
performance. Perhaps you should vent your spleen on the Mangling
Director of said subsidiary, the shifty Mr. Tony Serra (02) 427-4888.
Unfortunately a 120volt NTSC Amiga wont fit well with our 240volt
PAL world.

| Price in the UK is 990 sterling including 2nd drive, no monitor.
I make that about A$1950. I should think you could get a
round-the-world ticket for less than the difference between that
A$4000 !
Seriously, I have done the reverse once, ie. shipped a computer
I bought while living in Oz to England, and used it no problems
there (an Apple ][ clone). Power is the same 240V 50Hz and they
use PAL which I am almost sure is the same, although there are a
number of different PAL standards, so check further.

| I wonder why no one replied from Germany, probably the
country where Amiga is the most successful!
A A2000 retails for approx. DM2700 or US$1300.
That includes 14% (maybe 15%, I don't live there) tax.
They will mail it to you tax free, meaning that the whole deal
will cost you about $1300.
The A2000 will be PAL, 50Hz, 240V, 1 FDD, 1MB.
Tell me if you want exact prizes or addresses.

| If search around a bit, you can get an A2000 (Ver. B) including
1084S and 20 MB hard-disk for aprox. DM 3100 ($1700), including
14% tax.
If you export it out of Germany, you'll get back the german tax
(DM 380 i.e. $210), but you'll have to pay the tax for your country.
