Yeah, I noticed- the screen was even the standard "preferences blue".
I think they were using a 2000, from the box in front of the cardiologist.
I also noticed the fan noise when he was talking. Oh, well...

Aren't spouses unbelievably insensitive? I brought home 'Prince
of Darakness' which prominently featured an A1000 in scene after
scene. My wife was actually ANNOYED whenever I'd freeze the tape
to try to see better. I can't believe I married such a philistine.

make that a "color" TV :-)
after all, how else can you be sure it was "Preferences' blue and
white". I saw it too. The title bar looked like it had the starting
X and Y coordinates.
Just imagine, an Amiga being used for real work. What a waste of
a great game machine :-) At least they could have hooked up the
stereo and had the program play the waveforms in real time.

| ok Guys - you might not believe this but...
Apparently in the US, personal computers are now a major contributing
factor to about 25% of all divorces. Mostly wives divorce husbands
in these cases and seem to view the computer as direct competition
for their husband's affections. In One recent case a disgruntled wife
shot her husbands IBM PC 6 times with his .38 - apparently he took
offence and they are now seperated...
Mind you - look on the bright side - Absolute obedience with extremely
low running costs ... mabye not so silly (just kidding!)

HA!!! Mine does. It sits there on my desk and whines, "Rob, I need
this program to play with." "Rob, Buy me some more memory" "Rob,
I really need a hard drive"

Obviously a case of "not enough computers for everybody" :-)
Just imagine the joy of a personal computer for each member of the
family, all networked together and to the file server in the basement.
Each computer screaming for "I need more memory", "I'd like that
new game now", etc....

**** MAN GETS COMPUTER PREGNANT ****
Officals at the Digital Spitbrook Facility are expected to confirm tomorrow
that Maurice Interleave, a night Operator, has impregnated a stand-alone
VAX-11/780. When asked how a man could get a computer pregnant, software
engineers at Spitbrook stated that it was obviously a hardware problem.
Sources close to the scene say that DEC is thankful that the incident did
not occur with the new VAX Clusters, which would have greatly increased
the sensitivity and complexity of the problem.
The delivery is expected to be in nine months through an undisclosed I/O
port, but Industry analysts have frowned on that date, insisting that
nothing comes out of Spitbrook on time.

Computer Chronicles
Thurs. 11:30 PM
Ch 11 (PBS, Durham NH):
A look at how Commodore Business Machines has updated the
Amiga computers.
Computer Chronicles also airs on Boston's Ch 2 on Saturday at 1:30 pm.
My local newspaper listing doesn't show the topic, but I'd assume its
the same show.

2184.19 | Computer Chronicles | FSDEV1::JBERNARD | John Bernard 292-2591 YWO/E3 | Wed Mar 08 1989 09:40 | 9 |
| Computer Chronicles focused on the Amiga last night. Discussion
and demo of DPAINT III, professional video applications, the Amiga's
multi-tasking ability, etc, etc, etc...!!! I stumbled on to it,
since I don't regularly watch CC due to its primarily MAC and PC
focus. It seemed the whole show was focused on the Amiga. Very
enjoyable and a pleasure to watch.
a side note, the capabilities of DPAINT III seem to have increased
quite a bit, especially in the area of animation.

I saw the Amiga episode on Saturday; all in all it was a very nice
presentation. I thought that the Lawrence Livermore segment was
the most interesting. Scientists there are using Amigas to connect
to large number crunchers. As the simulations are run on the
mainframes, they feed data to the Amigas, which then manipulate
graphics while still online. They selected the Amiga mainly for
it's multitasking capabilities.
Lou Wallace of AmigaWorld gave a great multitasking demo, running
DPaint, KindWords and Analyze! all at the same time and cutting
and pasting text and graphics from one screen to another.
Some slick from Commodore gave demos of Menace and BattleChess. Looks
like CBM is unashamedly admitting that the Amiga is a great game
machine.
The only gaff that I caught was when one fellow (who was demo'ing
a video special effects package) proclaimed that the A2500 was running
a 14 MHz 68000 instead of a 68020. He then went on to claim that
the A2500 would have a speed advantage over a MacII.
Again, it was the kindest I'd ever seen our favorite computer treated
by the mainstream press.

I thought it was great. I got the impression that the Amigaworld
guy has done that demo before, or is used to doing presentations.
But I thought the title of the show was how much CBM has improved
the Amiga. Nothing in that demo couldn't be done on a A1000/500/2000
with a little extra memory.
Other than the 2500, where was the rest of the new stuff? (like
the AT bridgeboard, genlock, etc.)
On the other hand, it was nice to see a good business justification
for buying Amigas.

The March issue of UnixWorld has an article about Posix, in
which Commodore is mentioned as having demonstrated a Posix-
compliant UNIX. Commodore is apparently serious about getting
into the government and educational market. Also mentioned,
is that the high end Amigas have become the favorite for
desktop publishing.
I hope they ARE serious so we can shake this 'toy' computer image.
