2180.0. "Patch to make NX1000 Driver" by DPDMAI::ANDERSONA () Tue Jan 31 1989 20:15
I downloaded the following this weekend. I used it and it works for me.
The archieve I downloaded had a patched version of the driver. But my
captive account will not allow me to upload it.
Using NewZap I found the patch locations as follows:
1B45 at Sector 2 cursor position 1F4 1F5 change to 1B47
1B46 at Sector 2 cursor position 1F8 1F9 change to 1B48
Happy Printing
Alan
The rest of the Note is as Timothy Metz's ReadMe!! file.

Fixed EpsonX[CBM_MPS-1250] Driver, now Renamed EpsonX[NX-1000]
What was the problem ??
The problem was with boldfacing in NLQ mode, the driver would send an
ESC E (to start) and an ESC F (to end) to toggle boldfacing. These codes
are actually named Emphasized and Cancel Emphasized, which only work in
draft mode. The ESC E would cause draft characters to be emphasized by
thickening vertical strokes, which is fine for draft but won't work in NLQ.
The proper commands (which work in both draft and NLQ) are ESC G
(Double Strike) and ESC H (Cancel Double Strike). Double Strike bolds by
thickening the horizontal strokes which is more pleasing to the eye than
the Emphasized method.
How did I do it ??
I used FileZap to search for an occurrence of 1B 45 and 1B 46 (Hex codes
for toggling Emphasize), 1B is Hex for ESC. I then replaced them with 1B 47
and 1B 48 (Hex codes for toggling Double Strike).
If you try this yourself keep in mind that the codes will be next to each
other since they are related, therefore if you find 1B 45 in one place and
1B 46 in the other end of the driver you are doing something wrong.
If you want to see the Star NX-1000 in its prime, do the following:
Go into preferences and select change printer, then graphic 2. Now turn
the smoothing on and select a density of 6 or 7 (they are equal). Save your
changes and run a Word Processor such as Excellence or NotePad, a Desktop
Publisher will also do, such as PageSetter. Now print some text in multiple
fonts. The print head should be making three passes per line and the typical
dot matrix look will be gone and a sharp, crisp printout will be present !!
