2163.0. "WARNING: Matt Dillon's BACKUP utility" by MANTIS::LONG () Thu Jan 26 1989 12:17
I just found a bug with the PD BACKUP utility for hard disks that was posted
on USENET a while back by Matt Dillon. If you have a DRAWER icon called FOO
and inside that FOO sub-directory you have a PROJECT icon called FOO.INFO that
is associated with an executable called FOO, the executable will not be
restored. I don't know yet if the executable was actually saved and not
restored or whether it was not saved in the first place.
I found this out the hard way late last night when I decided to roll
everything off the harddisk, reformat for FFS, and roll it back on. I lost
about 10 files from this bug. If I had placed the executables and icons in
drawers called ASSORTED-TOOLS or something else that didn't match my
executable names, there was no problem. Even with this bug, it's still a very
good backup utility if you know what to steer away from.
