Just got an envelope in today's mail offering _Amiga Plus_ magazine
from Antic Publishing. This will be a bimonthly magazine plus disk
with the first issue dated April/May. Contents of the first issue -
- "Happy Guy" animation on disk plus article on how it was made
- Comparison review of all Amiga word processing software packages
- Games: Kamikaze Chess, Mastermind
- "Mighty Macro Library"
- Getting started in Amiga desktop video
- Photo Laboratory tutorial
- "Make-it-yourself Datebook"
- Color-cycling special effects
From the look of the flyer, _Ami+_ will be slick but will still have
some substance. Looks like it will avoid the "son of C-64" flavor
of other spinoff magazines. (Antic is active in Atari ST publishing
and software.) They promise 100 pages plus a disk per issue.
Price: $39.95/year (6 issues)
Has anybody heard hard news about this magazine? Is the original
_Antic_ good? Does _Amiga Plus_ look worth a subscription?

re: was Antic any good?
I got the same thing in the mail. I was hoping it would be a
"son of Atari 400/800" magazine but without all that ST stuff
cluttering it up :-)
In the 8-bit atari world, ANTIC and A.N.A.L.O.G. were/are the
leading magazines in the US. It will be interesting to see if they
can do an original disk magazine, without resorting to stuffing
it with PD programs. I'm a bit hesitant to send off for a disk
subscription for a magazine that has only been announced but not
yet shipped.
On the other hand, I was glad to see that they didn't pick a particular
language to publish programs in. And the articles did look
interesting. And if they brought over any of the old 8-bit
programmers, they might be able to teach the Amiga a thing or two
about dual playfields and custom display lists.
