2125.1 | Should work | DPDMAI::ANDERSONA | | Tue Jan 24 1989 21:53 | 14 |
| You will need a SCSI to ST506 disk controller. The Adaptec 4000A
can support up to 16 heads. This will have to be mounted inside
the enclosure and a fifty pin ribbon cable will have to be run outside
of the box to your SCSI host adapter on the Amiga. As for the
partitions the V1.3 docs say it can handle a partition limit of
2 Gigabytes. So any size/number you feel is convieniant to backup.
The RD54 is a ST506/ST412 type drive so it should work with any
of the SCSI to ST506 type controllers. I can come up with the specs
if you need them. I actually had a broken one that I wanted
to play with for a weekend but my boss is a stick in the mud
and I had to send it in for repair.

| RE.2
First of all a 2090a doesn't fit on a 500 directly....it only fits
into a A2000 100 pin slot. You would need an expansion box like
Pacific Periferals. subsystem (US$249-SRP).
Second, before you buy , you may want to read the nov.(i think) issue
of Amazing Computing. There's an article about the performance of
many of the A2000 controllers. The article is very informative!

I'm getting ready to purchase a hard disk and would really like to read

| I have an copy of the Computer Shopper article that delt with building
an hard disk subsystem for A500 and A1000's if this would interest
anyone. By now a bit outdated but it still has a few good ideas.

2125.7 | Disk space... the final frontier. | RLAV::WEGER | NJCD SWS, Piscataway NJ. 323-4468 | Wed Jul 11 1990 22:43 | 16 |
| I have the opportunity to add an RD54 to my system. I currently have an
RD53/Adaptec and an RZ23 connected to my CLtd A500 host adapter. The
Adaptec is supposed to handle 2 ST506 drives so I thought I'd give it
a try. (guess I'm a glutton for punishment).
Does anyone know the drive geometry for the RD54 (heads,trks, cyls)??
Does anyone know of a reason why this might not work?
How about opinions as to the ability of my 200W clone PS to hack the
power needed to spin all three of these puppies up at the same time.
Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.
Thanks
-Bruce
