2123.0. "Advice on SUPRA repairs needed" by AITG::WISNER (Paul Wisner) Tue Jan 17 1989 17:18
My 20MB SUPRA drive has problems. It will run fine for about a day,
then, when I reboot I get "NOT A DOS UNIT". This happened
intermittently. Sometimes I could power down then back up, and it
would work for awhile. I called SUPRA, they said I should send it to
them (in Oregon!) to get it fixed. It will cost $50 - $300
(+shipping).
Although I'm no hardware expert, I'm not at all timid about taking
things apart. Can anyone suggest what the problem may be, or how
to go about repairing it myself. I want the $50 - $300 repair job
to be a last resort!
OTHER SYMPTOMS/INFO:
The SUPRAs built in clock doesn't work. (The SUPRA Utility
READCLOCK doesn't work).
My 2MB Starboard II works with the SUPRA controller in between
it and the Amiga. It also works in between them.
I ran SUPRA format with MAP option ON. I thought the drive was
formatting. (It spent two hours doing SOMETHING). When I booted up
all my old files were still on the disk.
Sometimes disconnecting the controller and reconnecting it helps.
Eventually it will fail again.

I had intermittent problems with my 20 meg Supra on an A1000 until
I installed a cooling fan within the enclosure. For details, go
waaaaay back to a note called 'A NEW HARD DRIVE OWNER'. It's in
the 800s somewhere. In it I posted instructions and a source for
a small cooling fan.

Actually, it's note 580.
