| I'm very sorry guys. Imeant to reply to the bards tale II conference
and ended up writing a new note. My most humble apologies. I'll
post my questions here anyway just in case someone has an answer.
1) Items found in the starter dungeon are, more often than not
readilly identifiable. ie: Kicksooth found a helmet. These items
that are identified as far as I can tell are not magical ie:bonus
to armor class. Are any of these items magical and have to be played
with to ascertain there worth or can you take them at face value?
2) Relative worth of the magic users? - Whos best? Whens the
best time to change classes? I have a 11th level magic user and
a 11th level conjurer/4rth level sorcerer. I'm wondering if you
should allways go for the maximum spell level in the class before
changing to another class?
I have a million other questions but I'll leave at this for
now.
Regards and thanks,
Ron

| Dont know about the starter dungeon in BTii but as a general rule:
(1) you DO have to experiment with magical items found to determine
their use. Sometimes the use might not appear obvious. For example
in BTI there is a particular staff that appears to have no real
use - but just carrying it around reduces hits by about
30% - other items lower armour class and some items are useful
only against a certain type of monster (ie a crucifix would
logically be handy against some of the undead such as vampires
but would probably be useless against something like a dragon)
(2) I would seriously reccomend getting all spells on all magic
levels before advancing to the next magic class. This is often
tedious - but if you dont you can run into real problems later
in the game.
I made the mistake of advancing both of my Conj's befor
to Magicians before learning the Greater revelation spell level
upwards. Now I have to carry a 3rd magic user who does very
little else except create light (so many darkness squares!!!)
you really do need GRRE for mapping as it lasts a long time
and reveals secret doors....
experiment with spells at an early stage in the game - note
what spells are most effective against different monsters etc.
Dont forget that spell points regenerate in daylight - if your
short on cash just sit in the sun for a couple of days
Definitely dont be a spendthrift - spend all youve got on better
weapons/armour/spell points/temple restoration etc - you'll
need the best for later levels.
This will save you a lot of grief in the long run.
I have also created a guy called BANKER (BTI) who stays at the
advent guild and holds on to my money - this problem is fixed
in BTII with bedders bank.
Hope this has helped some
any more questions?
Phil
