| 2077.1 | I wanna cheat | PRNSYS::LOMICKAJ | Jeff Lomicka | Thu Jan 05 1989 11:07 | 7 |
| | I'm still at "Harmless Offender" on the ST version. I'm enjoying this
one. (I accidently fired at a space station once, that's how I got to
be an offender.) I'm intereated in cheating - I want to know if combat
is going to get easier once I equip my ship with a rear-mounted beam
laser to keep the pirates at bay. I feel awfully vulnerable in my MKII
with only the one pulse laser and a pile of expensive missiles.

| | Is it at "The Memory Location" yet (assuming your Metroish..) and
    whats the price tag?

    (When bored I used to run guns for the local syndacite (sp!, no
    question) :-)

    Hi all.

       Does anybody know how I can complete the second mission without
    cheating, (Thargoids abound). Appreciate any help that is forthcoming.

                                 Ta Muchly.

| | since FALCON has already been dragged through the mud on this, I
    suppose it's time to ask:

    Does Elite run with expansion RAM and on a 68010/68020?
    Does it run in 512K or does it need a 1Meg?

| 2077.5 | Missions? | GRYHWK::WITHERS | No life I know can compare with pure imagination.. | Fri Jan 06 1989 17:04 | 11 |
|  |     On Elite:

    When I played it on the C64 thier didn't seem to be any overall
    governing purpose. Just fly, fight, trade, make money, increase you
    ship so your flying and fighting will be easier, so-on..

    Is this the case? Or are there missions? Special occurences? etc?

    Thanks,
    George (who is curious and will probably buy it soon... ;-))

| 2077.6 | Cheat mode - sh!!! | AYOV28::ATHOMSON | C'mon, git aff! /The Kelty Clippie | Wed Apr 11 1990 02:52 | 18 |
| | re: .5 Yes there are missions farther into the game.

    re: cheat mode. To enter cheat mode is the same on both the ST and
    Ami versions. Spoiler follows....

    You've been warned....

    At the beginning of the game, when you are asked for the word from
    the manual enter SARA then, when asked again, enter the correct
    response. The game will now start as normal, but pressing the keypad
    '*' key will put you into a commander file editor. ESC will exit.

    I will post the locations I've sussed out so far here tomorrow but
    I know that they are different on the ST. Interestingly there are
    some options for your MkII that are not in the manual... how about
    a cloaking device ?? or an ECM jammer ??

    of your last posting ( .6) you must have really gotten carried away.
    You're well over a year into the future. Thats one hell of a comm

    I (well, Santa) paid 19.95 for Elite. (Hmm I wonder what happened
    to the date ???)
    Sorry, I forgot to bring the piece of paper with the cheat locations
    on it into work with me, I'll try again tonight.

| 2077.9 | Elite questions | PRNSYS::LOMICKAJ | Jeff Lomicka | Wed Jan 18 1989 10:34 | 40 |
| | I'm up to "Above Average, Clean", and I have some questions and some
discoveries to share.
Questions:
    - Has anybody successfully mined an asteroid? How?
	I bought all the appropriate asteroid mining hardware - the
	fuel scoop, the mining laser, the rear mounted military laster
	(keeps the pirates at bay). I then flew right up to an
	asteroid, aimed the mining laser, and blew it up (poof!)
	thinking I'd be able to scoop up a bunch of minerals, and if I
	was lucky, a few gems or some gold.
	No such luck, nothing there but dust.
	I tried a few other asteroids, same thing. All I got was a
	=-credit bounty for eliminating a threat to navigation.
	I had much better results "mining" cargo ships. I was an
	"offender" for a while after reliving a freighter of a few
	tonnes [sic] of machinery.
    - What's this I hear about missions? Howabout an example?
    - Can you land on the planet with the retro-rockets? I bought them
	to see what they would do (they're not in my manual, except in
	the quick reference that says to press R to fire them.) I
	discovered you get a substantial reverse thrust out of them, and
	they could be useful for getting out of tough combat situations.
	However, you can only use them 5 times. If you fire them right
	after exiting the space station, you pass right through the space
	station to the other side - no collision!
	All my attempts at landing on the planets have ended in
	dream-music (i.e., death).
    - I have found out (the hard way) that it IS possible to survive after
	being snatched out of hyperspace by the Thara-whatevers. If you
	kill and/or avoid them long enough, your drive comes back and
	you can set a course and warp out. Good news for space travellers!

| | The dealers out here in California have told me their distributers don't even
know about Elite yet. It sounds like its been released in the UK. Anyone
out on the East coast of the US seen this game in the stores yet? If so, could
you post the location (and maybe a telephone number)
                                thanks

| | My husband and I once had great fun playing Elite.

    Unfortunately, our Elite Game Disk has become corrupted and will
    no longer load the game.

    Does anyone know the name and address of the people to make the
    game as we would like to contact them to try and obtain a replacement
    disk.

    Thanks

    I believe Elite was coded by a company called Mr Micro. I don't have
    their address.

    I also believe that the supplier was Firebird. Their address was:-

    		Firebird
    		74 New Oxford Street
    		London, WC1A 1PS
    		Tel - 01-631 5206

    Please note this address is at least one year old.

    Cheers

| 2077.17 | Where are the Missions? | DUCK::WILLIAMSC | COLLETTE WILLIAMS REO F3/7 | Wed Mar 06 1991 10:56 | 10 |
| | Can anyone tell me when and where do you find the missions.
I have now been playing for sometime and have reached COMPETENT.
If anyone knows the answer please let me know as all I can do at the
moment is keep trading and making mega bucks and it is getting a
little tiresome (except for the odd Thargoid attack or too)

| 2077.18 | Let's get Dangerous | UFHIS::SFISCHER |  | Thu Mar 07 1991 05:02 | 13 |
|  |     Hi Colette!

    You'll only get the missions, if you come to the Dangerous Level.(or if
    you Cheat (Dunno the Cheat PW anymore.I think it was something like
    SARAH).
    Another question : I heard about an ELITE-like game, called XYPHONS.How
    ist it?Should I buy it, or leave it? I really loved ELITE on the C64,
    and hated it on the Amiga, because it was so easy to get money and so
    hard to get the Level (hallo Colette;). Has anybody already tried it?

    so long,
    sammy
