I am attempting to hook up an LA75 serial printer to the A2000 parallel port. I have the LA75 in other mode at 9600. I copied the CBM MPS1000 driver and selected in perfs. When I started this I did not realize that the cabling would get so complex. But, this is how it currently stands. A2000 parallel port 1 cable DB25 to centronix 2 Parallel to serial converter set to 9600, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, parity inhibit 3 Male to male gender changer 4 Stanadard DEC cable to hook to terminal printer port DB25 LA75 set to 9600, 8-None, protocol: other Emulation settings Paper bell out : On Slashed zero : Zero without slash Auto LF on CR : No auto LF Active char set : Graphics set A Auto CR on LF : No auto CR Power-up density: Draft LQ or NLQ : Select NLQ I attempt to do a COPY file PRT: I get a long pause and requester that tells me to check the printer cabling. Questions: 1. Does anyone have a serial printer hooked to the parallel port in any way? 2. This should be possible shouldn't it? 3. Any help with what I may be doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.

2065.1 | LA210 failed also | VTHRAX::KIP | Mon Jan 02 1989 09:53 | 5
For the record, I tried doing this with an LA210 and my A1000. I had the specific parallel to serial converter made for the LA210. I did not have any of the printer emulation modules available for the LA210. It just would not work.
2065.2 | Good news and bad news | CSOA1::LEN | David M. Len | Mon Jan 23 1989 13:46 | 15 |
First the good news. I was able to get the printer working with the parallel to serial converter. I seems that the default setting for the converter is for DCE not DTE. Therefore, null modem cable allowed it to work. Now the bad news. The LA75 uses Xon-Xoff for flow control, which is not seen by the converter so data over-runs occur. I think if the LA75 supported CTS/RTS it would have worked without a problem. So I am now going to see if the store will let me return the converter back. And I guess I will get an RS232 A/B switch. |
