2042.1 | Review of TV Sports Football | MPGS::GOGUEN | | Wed Dec 28 1988 09:32 | 46 |
| I purchased TV Sports Football the other day. I think it's incredible.
But, be forwarned. It is going to take alot of practice to get fairly
good at this game. I lost my first game 41 to 7. I completed a lucky
long bomb from Flutie to Morgan and Stanley did the rest. I only passed
for 5.2% and had only around 163 total offense.
Well there is an alot to the game, the attention to detail is
magnificent, for those who love detail that is. In short it is the best
sports simulation game I have seen to-date. I give a brief overview of
the game.
-16 game schedule with playoffs following
-28 teams (you and 27 of your friends could each manage a team, or you
can let the computer manage a team or teams)
-statistics for every team & each individual player and then more
statistics
-each player is rated in for catergories, 1)speed 2)strength 3)hands
4)abililty. You can edit these catergories and design a team of you
own.
-practice mode for plays & kicking field goals.
-the computer plays all the games of the teams that are computer
managed, and gives you updates of scores around the league as you play
your game.
-you can play one of three ways
1. let the computer play you team and you just watch. Amusing at
first but then gets pretty boring.
2. you call the plays, but let the computer run them. Kind of like
being coach Berry or Steve Grogan from the sidelines.
3. You call the plays and then get in there and hike the ball and
take control of the quarterback and then whoever ends up with
the ball. Also on defense you can contol any one of the men in
the secondary. You can be Tippett and go for the sack or
Clayborn and try to make the key interception. Defense is
easier than playing offense but it can be done. I managed to
squeek by with a win playing my second game 25-24.
-the computer will actually learn your play calling tendencies, so if
you've got to go to the bathroom or to the kitchen for a bit to eat,
don't hesitate the computer will just continue with the game playing
it as if you were there.
-11 players per team on the field
If you love football and detail in a game then I would highly recommend
TV Sports Football to you. You won't be disappointed.

| I can second everything in .1!
Disk #1 is copy protected, haven't tried copying with Marauder yet.
The second disk is not protected. It contains all the team/player
data. Make a copy of this one and then you can create new teams and
players, etc.

2042.4 | Upgraded Version for TV Sports Football | MPGS::GOGUEN | | Fri Jan 13 1989 14:38 | 19 |
| Spoke to Cinemaware today, called to tell them there are some bugs with
TV Sports Football. I was pleased to here that they were already aware
of the bugs and that there is an updated version of the game available.
So, if you own this GREAT piece of software and want an updated
version, mail your original disks (2 of them) to:
Cinemaware
Attention: Customer Service
P.O. Box 5083
Westlake Village, CA 91359
and request the upgraded version of TV Sports Football.
BTW- They said the "Lords of the Rising Sun" should be released next
month. This looks like its going to be a good one!

2042.5 | Comment on Sodan | MEIS::ZIMMERMAN | Ninja turtles fight with honor! | Sat Jan 14 1989 15:18 | 10 |
| When I was down at TML last month picking up a copy of Dungeon
Master, there was a guy there trying out Sword of Sodan who was
really exercised because the doc said you could back up a game in
midstream when in fact you can't. He called the company and was told
that they didn't have time to implement that feature before the
release. (He also noted that the action was a little wooden. For
example, the girl in the skimpy outfit riding the horse didn't
"bounce". ;-) )

2042.6 | What problems?!?!?!?! | ECAVAX::STOUGHTON | | Fri Jan 27 1989 09:37 | 15 |
| I also agree with .1 The only disapointment that I had was the crowd
noise and the players. the crowd noise sounds more like the wind.
as far as the players... I wished that they had used real players
and statistics. (who knows maybe the Lion's will have a better team
now!).
>there are bugs
How do you know if you have the updated version??? what bugs were
there???

Trying to be a Lion's fan

2042.8 | Bugs in TV Sports Football | MPGS::GOGUEN | | Fri Jan 27 1989 16:49 | 30 |
| The major bug with TV Sports Football was the game would GURU while
playing the game. This happened to me twice.
Some minor bugs were in the statistics;
-a quarterback would have negative yards per carry average. Yet the
column would not have a "-" sign in front of the stat.
-looking at the total touchdowns scored against a particular team
in the team stats page. This amount was incorrect. It was equal to
the total the team actually had scored instead of the total amount
of touchdowns scored against the team.
Also I think the long bomb play is a bug (in my opinion) once mastered
you can basically score at will.
I know Cinemaware fixed the GURU problem, as for the rest of the bugs
I'm not sure yet. I will be sending for my upgraded version shortly.
To find out if you have the latest version, you could give Cinemaware a
call and ask them how you could tell.
If you do decide to send in for an upgrade Cinemaware is very good with
the turn around time. A friend of mine sent his game in for an upgrade.
He sent it "express mail", I guess he was worried about it taking a
long time for the turn around process. Well he got his upgraded copy
back within a week and Cinemaware actually sent it back "express mail".
That's a class act in my book!

| My friend Russ has taken the time to edit up all the teams with
real player names from 1988-89 season. He also took the time to edit
the ratings of some of the players to reflect there actual abilities.
If anyone would like a copy of this REEL2 you can send me a disk.

| Matt,
Have you read the manual? It tells you how to recover fumbles.
Also should tell you what the abbreviations stand for, although I think
you meant S,S,H and A not (S,S,H and T).

2042.13 | News on TV Sports Football Update | MPGS::GOGUEN | | Thu Feb 16 1989 12:04 | 16 |
| Just spoke with Cinemaware, as I was planning to send in for my
updated version of TV Sports Football. Well, I'm glad I called first
cause as it turns out they orignally thought the guru problem was only
with people running off of a ONE drive system. So the updated Version
is designed that way. They said, you could run it with a two drive
system but they didn't know if it would solve the Guru problem. Anyway
at this point I think I'll just hang onto my orignals, cause it doesn't
Guru that often.
Also Cinemaware said, they were having trouble pin-pointing the problem
with TV Sports Football. I hope this is not an indication of problems
with future releases. I am anxiously awaiting the Lords of the Rising
Sun. The new date for this release is end of March......we'll see.

| re .14
It takes some pratice to complete passes. It is best to first go
in pratice mode and throw passes. When you throw...hold down the
button to make the ball go higher and let go to make the ball descend
and hopefully it will land on one of your players...
