2037.0. "Moria for the Amiga" by CSOA1::LEN (David M. Len) Mon Dec 26 1988 22:15

       I just located an Amiga version of Moria on a local BBS here
    in Columbus Ohio. For those of you who liked the VAX version, this
    seems almost the same. They did add more picture oriented characters
    in the display. I have spooled a copy to NORSE::AMIGA:[UPLOAD].

       The documentation indocates that it was translated from the original
    Pascal to C. It is a BIG program and takes a while to load. I
    haven't checked how much memory it takes. When I check it out,
    I will post it.

       Another interesting point is that they have a contest going for
    original art work for 3 screens for the game. One during the initial
    loading of the program, one for when you die, and the last for the
    small possibility that you are victorious over the BARLROG.

2037.1Hasn't made it to NORSE yetCSOA1::LENDavid M. LenTue Dec 27 1988 13:0315
    This is the first time I have tried to upload something to NORSE.
    And FTSV is having a big problem with the network path going away.

    I will let FTSV continue until it finishes or exceeds the retry
    count. And since I will be on vacation for a few days, if the transfer
    fails, someone could try copy it. It is on
    RESORT::USER_DISK:[LEN.AMIGA.GAM]MORIA21.ARC

    If it hasn't made it to NORSE when I get back, I will try again.

    I did do a brief check on memory. It looks like 512K systems are
    just out of luck. I think it takes about 592K to load.

    It's a dungeons & dragons game. On the VAX, you play using single
    keystroke commands. It's very witty and quite amusing in parts,
    a sort of follow-on to ROGUE (if you know it).

    There's a notesfile about it on LOOP::MORIA (KP7).

    How do you pick stuff up??
    I tried walking over things (Sling,Scroll,etc...) and it tells me
    what they are but I can't pick them up to use.
    Also, there is no message about my pack being too full or things
    being too heavy.

    In the VAX version you simply have to walk over things and a message
    like 'You now have a staff of light (3 charges)' is displayed. To
    see what is in your pack, I believe the command is 'i' (inventory).

    Is the 'h' (help command) not available?

    try the "," key. I was hunting for the same thing last week, tried
    hitting every key, got a message that said something like "pickup
    mode on" (can't remember the exact message, the default appears
    to be pickup mode off).

2037.8Already a newer versionCSOA1::LENDavid M. LenWed Jan 04 1989 14:034
    I just got a copy of Moria 3.0 a couple of days ago. I got it on
    a bootable disk that is over 95% full. There is also an extensive
    doc file. I assume warp would be the best way to provide a copy?
    I'll try to get some time to upload a copy to NORSE.

    Pressing KP 5 will pick up an object once you are standing on it.

2037.10Unofficial Moria 3.0 availableCSOA1::LENDavid M. LenWed Jan 04 1989 20:338
    Well, a copy of Moria 3.0 as a warp file has been copied to
    NORSE::AMIGA:[UPLOAD]. My friend, that gave me the copy said that
    it is sort of a unofficial 3.0 release. The developer had a hard disk
    problem and lost a good bit of the source for this 3.0 executable.
    He is currently working from memory to redo the lost modifications.
    So, when I can get an official 3.0, I will send it again. But for
    now this 3.0 seems to have number of graphic improvments over 2.1.

2037.11Couldn't extract the tracks.DNEAST::SEELEY_BOBWed Apr 11 1990 03:034
    Has anyone had any luck in warp writing (unwarping) the 3.0 warped
    version from NORSE. If so, what strange tricks did you have to pull
    before it would 'unwarp' without a crc error near the middle of the
    tracks?
2037.12Me eitherSTC::HEFFELFINGERMon Jan 09 1989 22:2713
    I've had a similar amount of unluck. My experiences (all 2 of them)
    with Warp have been traumatic. I remember having nothing but trouble
    when I tried to unwarp the DungeonMaster demo. I think I finally
    rebooted my machine with a virgin 1.2 Workbench and it worked.
    That did not work with Moria.

    But 2.1 is keeping me happy for the moment. Thanks and praise be
    to the one who programmed it and the one who made it available on
    the E-net.

2037.13Corrected warp for Moria 3.0CSOA1::LENDavid M. LenTue Jan 24 1989 23:297
    re .-1 and .-2:

    Sorry, but the problem with the warp file was mine. I was not really
    monitoring the upload and I guess that it must have terminated with
    an error before the entire was completed. I have reloaded it to
    RESORT::USER_DISK:[LEN.GAM]MORIA30.WRP. And I will also copy it
    to NORSE::AMIGA:[UPLOAD]. Again, sorry for the problem.
2037.14CSOA1::LENDavid M. LenWed Jan 25 1989 09:0611
    I have not had much time to play this version of Moria, but the
    unwarped floppy can be booted or used from the workbench. There
    are icons for the doc and help files, as well as starting the game.
    There is also an icon that can be used to start Moria with a saved
    character.

    If there are still problems, I will try to address them.

    Would the manager of the NORSE:: areas, please delete the old copy
    of MORIA30.WRP now on AMIGA:[GAMES].
